As a die-hard horror fan with a penchant for the macabre and a soft spot for classic monster reboots, I couldn’t be more thrilled about Lee Cronin‘s upcoming take on “The Mummy.” Having proven his mettle with the critically acclaimed “Evil Dead Rise,” I have no doubts that he will breathe fresh life into this ancient terror.

Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster, recently merged horror production companies, are set to bring a new version of a classic horror icon. The upcoming film titled “The Mummy” will be directed by Lee Cronin, who is well-known for his quirky and fan-favorite movie “Evil Dead Rise.

The project will be handled by Cronin, who will both write and direct it. This project is scheduled for release on April 17, 2026, as per New Line Cinema.

Cronin stated that this won’t resemble any ‘Mummy’ film you’ve seen previously. He’s delving deep into the past to awaken something incredibly old and extremely terrifying.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be working with the esteemed director whose brand is Doppelgängers, who not only directs but also produces our upcoming project. Joining forces with him are industry giants James Wan, Jason Blum, and John Keville. This film will be a collaborative effort between Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, with both studios co-financing the production. Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Macdara Kelleher take on executive producer roles, ensuring a high-quality end product. Alayna Glasthal, an executive at Atomic Monster, is overseeing this exciting project for us.

Blumhouse has been successful in revamping the iconic horror characters originally featured in Universal’s movie collection, with a significant number of these films being released by them. For instance, Elizabeth Moss’ surprise hit “The Invisible Man” and the forthcoming reimagining of “The Wolfman,” helmed by director Lee Whannell and featuring Christopher Abbot, are part of this trend.

The movie “The Mummy” gave rise to a film series from the late ’90s, featuring Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, and later Dwayne Johnson in a sequel. However, an attempt at a reboot in 2017, starring Tom Cruise alongside Sofia Boutella and Russell Crowe, didn’t fare so well.

The horror film titled ‘Evil Dead Rise,’ distributed by New Line, generated an impressive box office revenue of approximately $150 million against a production budget of just $12 million. Notably, the film’s director, Cronin, is represented by three talent agencies: Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Brillstein Entertainment, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman Wertheimer Mandelbaum Morris Bernstein Trattner Auerbach Hynick Jaime LeVine Sample & Klein.
