¡Hola amigos! As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the captivating world of international dramas and women’s sports, I couldn’t be more thrilled about this latest move by Netflix! It’s like my two favorite universes are colliding, and I can’t help but feel a sense of camaraderie with the brilliant minds at Netflix.
Hooray! Netflix is making strides by officially entering the sports arena, securing the exclusive U.S. rights for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031. This was confirmed on December 20th. FIFA stated in a Variety report that this acquisition strengthens the tournament’s position as the largest women’s sports event globally, offering an excellent opportunity to boost the sport even more. Netflix, on the other hand, is venturing deeper into live sports broadcasting, despite some initial setbacks. Starting from January, it will air WWE’s Raw, and it has a significant NFL game featuring Beyoncé’s halftime show lined up for Christmas.
Today, it so happens that Netflix announces a partnership with South Korean broadcaster SBS to broadcast even more of their content, such as beloved K-dramas, according to Korea JoongAng Daily. This agreement grants Netflix the rights for both fresh and archived content from SBS. Anticipated shows coming to Netflix in early 2025 are Running Man, Unanswered Questions, Kick a Goal, Hot Stove League, and The Penthouse: War in Life. Clearly, Netflix knows what’s trending: International dramas and women’s sports. Let’s say “Hwaiting!” or “Olé” to that!
