As a cinephile who has spent countless hours immersed in the captivating world of cinema, this news about Stars Collective and DNEG joining forces to bring immersive theater experiences to the Chinese market is nothing short of exhilarating. With my extensive experience in appreciating the artistry and technology behind filmmaking, I can’t help but be thrilled at the prospect of experiencing these stories in a whole new dimension.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Stars Collective and DNEG, two pioneers in media technology and visual effects, are teaming up to revolutionize my cinematic journey in the Chinese market. Our partnership is all about creating and operating immersive virtual reality (VR) and theater experiences across China, with ambitions to extend this magic to Southeast Asia and North America.

DNEG, the seven-time Academy Award-winning visual effects studio known for projects like “Dune: Part Two” and “Oppenheimer,” will offer technological resources, intellectual property rights, funding, and content creation assistance. Stars Collective, in collaboration with partners Meilin Culture and Xinghan Interactive, has already set up numerous offline experience centers in China and aims to expand this network to 100 locations globally by 2025.

The agreement encompasses financing from Pathbender Media Holdings’ MINT Fund, a resource that established “MINT Fund – Stars” for funding diverse projects in the realms of immersive experiences, live-action films, animation, video games, and visual effects.

Partnering with us opens up a vast array of possibilities for filmmakers, storytellers, and the worldwide creative community as a whole,” noted Peter Luo, founder of Stars Collective. Known for his backing of films like “Crazy Rich Asians” and “Marshall” through Starlight Media, he spoke about this scale expansion.

Co-CEO of Stars Collective, Nancy Xu stated: “Turning films into events is crucial for the advancement and transformation of our sector. We believe that interactive experiences in cinemas will spark a flood of chances for content creators to eventually deliver unique and captivating content to viewers.

Xu Yu, CEO of Meilin and Xinghan, stated that by closely connecting our tech and offerings with famous movie franchises worldwide, we’ll provide an unmatched level of immersive enjoyment to viewers,” said Xu Yu.

Namit Malhotra, CEO of DNEG Global, believes this partnership fits well with the company’s growth strategy: “The debut of DNEG IXP, our immersive experiences branch, and our ongoing efforts to broaden our service variety to support our Hollywood collaborations and ventures, I am pleased to announce this strategic alliance with Stars Collective.

For over a decade, Christopher Nolan has consistently relied on the VFX studio as his preferred effects partner, starting with “Batman Begins.” They’ve earned Academy Awards for their work on “Inception,” “Interstellar,” and most recently, “Tenet.” Their current projects include Season 2 of “The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power” and Bong Joon-ho’s upcoming film, “Mickey 17.” Through Prime Focus Studios, Malhotra is collaborating with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations to produce an adaptation of the Indian epic “Ramayana,” as well as continuing work on the “K.G.F.” franchise.

Stars Collective has been expanding its lineup, most recently obtaining the rights for “Fortune Sons,” a project produced by Academy Award winner Donna Gigliotti, and Shawn M. Warner’s bestselling novel “Leigh Howard and the Ghosts of Simmons – Pierce Manor.” Additionally, they have secured the life rights to Chef Pam, who was named Asia’s Best Female Chef 2024 by World’s 50 Best Restaurants.

The collaboration arises as Stars Collective broadens its influence, thanks to the $300 million Stars-Hana fund it shares with Hana Investment (China) and Starlight Media. This investment is being utilized to create video game versions of upcoming films like “The Garfield Movie” and projects by James Wan, Sam Raimi, and Roy Lee. They are collaborating with gaming companies such as Tencent and DreamSky Technology for this purpose.
