As a seasoned film enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of psychological thrillers, I can confidently say that “The Housemaid” is shaping up to be a captivating addition to the genre. With a stellar cast led by Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, under the masterful direction of Paul Feig, this film promises an enthralling exploration into the depths of human nature and the secrets that bind us.

The movie version of Freida McFadden’s bestselling psychological thriller book, titled ‘The Housemaid,’ is set to debut on Christmas Day 2025, according to Lionsgate.

In the thrilling movie penned by Rebecca Sonnenshine and helmed by Paul Feig, who’s known for “Bridesmaids” and “A Simple Favor,” Sydney Sweeney (“Euphoria,” “Anyone But You”), Amanda Seyfried (“Mamma Mia,” “The Dropout”), Brandon Sklenar (“It Ends With Us,” “1923”) and Michele Morrone (“365 Days,” “Subservience”) take on leading roles.

In “The Housemaid”, Millie (Sydney Sweeney), a hard-pressed young woman, finds solace in a new opportunity as a housemaid for the affluent pair, Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew (Brandon Sklenar). However, she swiftly discovers that the family’s hidden truths pose a greater risk than her own personal secrets.

Todd Lieberman, Feig, Carly Kleinbart Elter, and Laura Fischer serve as the producers, while Sweeney, Seyfried, McFadden, and Alex Young take on the role of executive producers.

Erin Westerman from Lionsgate Motion Picture Group expressed excitement when the project was unveiled in October, stating that one enjoyable aspect of the book was envisioning the characters as we read. She believes Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are excellent fits for Millie and Nina because they both possess a sense of mystery, depth, and exceptional talent at portraying characters who aren’t immediately transparent. Westerman is delighted about pairing them with Paul Feig, whom they previously collaborated with on ‘A Simple Favor’ and its upcoming sequel, as Feig has a demonstrated ability to create stories featuring strong, multidimensional female leads.

Adam Fogelson, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair, expressed his excitement by saying, “It’s a pleasure to welcome ‘The Housemaid’ to our upcoming lineup. A skilled director, an outstanding cast, and a fantastic script from a remarkable book make for an excellent foundation. My past collaborations with Paul and Amanda have been exceptional, and Sydney possesses the same level of talent and captivating appeal.

2022 saw the release of the blockbuster novel, “The Housemaid,” which became the top-selling book on The New York Times list, with over a million copies sold. This popular work has since inspired several sequels, including “The Housemaid’s Secret,” “The Housemaid’s Wedding,” and “The Housemaid is Watching.
