As a long-time Valorant player who’s spent countless hours climbing the ranks, I can certainly empathize with the frustration that many players are expressing about smurf accounts. It feels like a never-ending battle, trying to progress when you’re constantly matched against players who seem to be on another level.

Players of Valorant are expressing dissatisfaction, stating that the game becomes less enjoyable for those at lower skill levels because there’s an excessive number of high-skill players disguised as newcomers (smurf accounts) appearing more frequently than usual.

Advancing in the tiers of Valorant isn’t always straightforward, and it becomes more complicated due to the presence of smurfs. Smurfs are not a novelty in the gaming world; they refer to experienced players who create new accounts to compete in lower skill brackets.

Some Smurfs maintain secondary accounts specifically for playing with friends at lower skill tiers, while others employ them maliciously to spoil the gaming experience of other players.

For many players, particularly those who feel stuck and outperformed by new accounts, it’s been a persistent annoyance over an extended period of time.

Valorant players have had enough of smurfs

Some gamers feel that the experience has deteriorated significantly, causing a loss of interest in play, particularly among those in lower tiers.

User ITellMyselfSecrets4 expressed frustration over a prolonged period of encountering players with silver 2 to gold 1 rankings and often bronze or iron level players ending up with a score of 27 wins and 5 losses in games. They found it disheartening to see so many “smurf” accounts in lower ranks, and stated that the current state of low skill ratings is currently not enjoyable.

“My partner and I have both observed something unusual… We’re both ranked Silver 2, yet everyone seems to be expert snipers, constantly landing headshots while counter-strafing. It’s perplexing…” Another player chimes in, saying, “The number of smurfs in the lower ranks of this game is astonishing.

It was pointed out by other players that there remains an issue with individuals, known as “throwers,” who aim to lower their rank by deliberately forfeiting games.

As a gamer, my main concern is with those who intentionally ruin games – be it due to poor performance or simply disliking the map. One user even mentioned that some players just toss matches without a second thought.

Previously, Riot has attempted to control smurf accounts, implementing an ‘Automatic Smurf Identification’ system. While this measure has led to a reduction of up to 20%, there is still work to be done in fully addressing the issue.
