As a seasoned gaming enthusiast who’s been through my fair share of console wars, I must say I was deeply disheartened by the recent turn of events at the Hornets game in Charlotte. The PlayStation 5 is like the holy grail for gamers this holiday season, and seeing that young boy’s excitement only to have it snatched away was heart-wrenching. It’s a classic case of ‘tease and then retreat,’ reminiscent of a boss fight in a game where you’ve nearly defeated it, only for it to summon an army of minions before escaping.

Though the PlayStation 5 Pro has already been released, the original PS5 continues to be a sought-after gift during this festive season. A young supporter at a recent Hornets game in Charlotte, North Carolina seemed to receive a PS5 as a gift on court, only for the NBA team to feign gifting it before swiftly retracting it once the cameras moved away.

As a passionate fan, I came across an exciting incident that was shared on social media by one of us, Adam Turner. He graciously posted a video about it. Here’s the scoop: The kid had won a PS5 in a giveaway, but unfortunately, the Hornets apparently took back the console when they realized their error. However, after the buzz online, the Hornets decided to make things right by giving the kid a jersey instead.

If you’re looking for an affordable sports-related organization, check out this video. My best friend and his nephew were invited onto the court for a special segment. Off-camera, they surprised the boy by taking back the PS5 they had gifted him publicly and instead gave him a jersey. 🤣 Kudos to the Hornets, you really made that kid’s day!

Due to the uproar it caused, the Hornets later apologized, explaining that the giveaway was intended as an amusing court-side act rather than a genuine prize. The team also shared that they have contacted the boy’s family to extend an offer for him to receive a PS5 and a VIP experience at one of their future home games.

The Hornets team announced that they will be rewarding a young fan with a PlayStation 5 and an exclusive VIP experience for upcoming games, according to their statement about last night’s promotion. (@wcnc)

As reported by Yahoo Sports, the boy’s uncle had been informed that he wouldn’t be retaining the PS5, but apparently, the child wasn’t aware. The story gained widespread attention both nationally and locally before the Hornets decided to change their stance. Later on, Turner wrote, “Kudos to the Hornets for rectifying the situation and taking swift action promptly. Admitting mistakes is commendable, and many organizations often attempt to hide their errors.

Up until the previous year, Michael Jordan, a basketball hall-of-famer, was the principal owner of the Hornets. However, he recently passed on most of his ownership rights to a fresh ownership group.
