As a lifelong gamer and animation enthusiast who has grown up with the likes of Pac-Man, Mega Man, and Dungeons & Dragons, I must say that Secret Level has been an absolute delight to witness. The first season took me on a nostalgic journey through some of my most cherished gaming memories, all while showcasing top-notch animation and a stellar voice cast.

This year, Amazon premiered the animated video game anthology series “Secret Level” on December 10th. A week later, it’s been confirmed that a second season of “Secret Level” is in the works, although Amazon hasn’t disclosed yet which games will appear in the new season.

Based on information from Variety and Luminate, it’s estimated that around 1.4 million users in the U.S. watched Secret Level for a total of 155.3 million minutes. While Amazon didn’t provide specific viewership numbers, they did mention that Secret Level is the most-watched debut of an animated series on their streaming platform. This significant viewership could be one reason behind the quick renewal of the show.

Tim Miller, known for directing Deadpool, is behind the creation of Secret Level. Prior to this, he oversaw Netflix’s Love, Death & Robots series. The initial season of Secret Level features narratives influenced by games such as Dungeons & Dragons, Mega Man, Warhammer 40,000, Armored Core, and Pac-Man. One particular episode, the 13th, is based on Concord, a game that Sony’s shooter once was, but has since been removed from sale and shut down. This episode follows a group of misfits attempting the heist of a lifetime, concluding with an uncertain yet optimistic ending.

Miller and his team brought on board a stellar cast for the initial season, with Keanu Reeves providing likeness for the Armored Core episode, along with other notable names such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Kevin Hart, Laura Bailey, Emily Swallow, Gabriel Luna, Ariana Greenblatt, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

At this moment, there isn’t a set schedule for when Secret Level Season 2 will premiere, nor do we know which video game developers will collaborate for the series. However, despite this uncertainty, the first season has undeniably made an impact on one legendary character. In fact, as revealed at The Game Awards, the Pac-Man episode from Season 1 served as inspiration for the upcoming Metroidvania title Shadow Labyrinth. This new game represents a significant departure from previous installments in the franchise.
