As a seasoned gamer with decades of Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) battles under my belt, I can attest to the rollercoaster ride that is the latest Mythical Island set. The Mew ex card and its synergistic buddy, Budding Expeditioner, have certainly spiced up the metagame. However, as mokouliszt’s tweet painfully illustrates, these cards can be a double-edged sword – or rather, a game-ending one if used at the wrong moment.

Using a specific deck combination from the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) Pocket’s Mythical Island set could lead to an immediate loss for players when utilized inappropriately, as the game mechanics don’t sufficiently regulate its functioning at certain times.

The Mew EX card stands out as one of the most potent cards within the Mythical Island collection, thanks to its ability to swiftly adapt. This is primarily because of its Genome Hacking attack, which allows it to mimic an opponent’s move under certain conditions. These conditions often result in a lower cost and no limitations on Energy usage.

On the mystical island, not just Mew ex was introduced, but also a Supporter card named Budding Expeditioner, designed to work with it. Interestingly, as Twitter user mokouliszt found out, employing this combination may unexpectedly lead to losing the game instead.

Mew ex + Budding Expeditioner can cause you to lose straight away

In this game, as a nascent explorer, you can swap out a Mew from your active Pokémon position to your hand. This means that if it gets knocked out, it won’t happen because playing it again will heal it. Moreover, you can catch your opponents off guard by moving a Pokémon from your bench straight into the active spot.

If Mew EX is in play and there’s nothing on your bench, using Budding Expeditioner to send it back to your hand will result in an immediate loss because you won’t have a Pokemon on the field. This is because Budding Expeditioner doesn’t allow you to bring something from your hand into play.

If the creators of Pokémon TCG Pocket desire to show leniency, they could introduce a message box alerting the player about the potential consequence of their upcoming action being forfeiting the game. This feature might be incorporated into a future software upgrade.

As a devoted fan, I’d express it this way: My former partner, Mew EX, is an elite competitive deck, and Budding Expeditioner is one of its standout features. This card denies your opponent two points while providing you with a complimentary retreat. However, using it too early could be detrimental to your game, as it prevents you from placing another Pokémon in the spot occupied by Mew EX.
