As a film enthusiast with a penchant for dark comedies and a soft spot for Florida’s eccentricities, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the renewal of “Bad Monkey” for Season 2 on Apple TV+! The first season was a delightful ride, filled with humor, mystery, and an ensemble cast that made every episode a treat. Vince Vaughn as Andrew Yancy was nothing short of brilliant, and I can’t wait to see what adventures await him in the upcoming season.
“Bad Monkey” has been renewed for Season 2 at Apple TV+, EbMaster has learned.
The initial season of this series premiered on Apple’s streaming platform in August, concluding in October. This first season was adapted from Carl Hiaasen’s novel of the same name. Contrary to a sequel novel titled “Razor Girl,” Season 2 is not expected to follow the storyline of that book. Bill Lawrence has developed “Bad Monkey” for television, with Vince Vaughn playing the leading role.
Lawrence expressed that Carl Hiaasen, whom he greatly admires and finds inspiring as a writer, is an idol of his. He’s thrilled about the opportunity to contribute to Hiaasen’s story, working alongside Vince Vaughn and an exceptional cast, especially since most characters are still alive in the narrative. He expressed gratitude towards Apple TV+ and Warner Bros for this chance, as well as the entire team that makes this show possible.
The series follows the character Andrew Yancy (Vaughn), who was kicked out of the Miami Police Department and now works as a health inspector in the Keys. However, when he discovers a grisly case involving a human arm found by tourists, he sees an opportunity to prove murder and get reinstated. To do this, he must navigate through a quirky crowd of Floridians and deal with one troublesome monkey.
Ever since ‘Bad Monkey’ premiered on Apple TV+, it quickly became a hit among viewers due to its humor and entertaining nature,” noted Matt Cherniss, the head of programming for Apple TV+. “Starring Vince Vaughn as Andrew Yancy, along with an exceptional supporting cast, we can hardly wait for everyone to dive into more laugh-out-loud, sunny, beachside misadventures, penned by Bill Lawrence. As the heat intensifies, we’re eager to explore further twists and turns in this captivating murder mystery in its upcoming episodes.
In the world of cinema critiques, I found myself immersed in the captivating first season of “Bad Monkey”. This intriguing production was graced by the talents of Vaughn, alongside a stellar cast including L. Scott Caldwell, Rob Delaney, Meredith Hagner, Natalie Martinez, Alex Moffat, Michelle Monaghan, Ronald Peet, and Jodie Turner-Smith. Notably, John Ortiz made a special appearance, while Zach Braff, Ashley Nicole Black, Scott Glenn, and Charlotte Lawrence graced our screens as guest stars, with the latter making her television debut. A truly star-studded production!
On “Bad Monkey,” produced by Doozer Productions, Lawrence acts as both showrunner and executive producer, and also created the series. Besides producing, Vaughn stars in the show. Jeff Ingold and Lisa Katzer from Doozer, Matt Tarses, and Marcos Siega are all executive producers. Warner Bros. Television, where Lawrence has an overall deal, is the production company.
Lawrence has now worked on his third project with Apple TV+; he earlier co-created the popular sitcom ‘Ted Lasso’, and presently, ‘Shrinking’ is airing its second season, which has already secured a commission for a third.
