As a longtime admirer of the silver screen and small screen alike, I must say that the prospect of Jamie Lee Curtis stepping into the shoes of Jessica Fletcher is nothing short of thrilling! With her impressive acting pedigree and knack for bringing characters to life, I can’t help but imagine the captivating performance she’ll undoubtedly deliver in this iconic role.
It looks like Jamie Lee Curtis is getting ready to don some doilies and contemporary casual trench coats, as it appears she’s set to join the cast of “Murder, She Wrote.
It’s been verified that Curtis, an Academy Award recipient, is currently discussing potential roles for the famous character Jessica Fletcher, a crime novelist transformed into a skilled detective, who was the main focus in the extended television series previously headlined by Angela Lansbury.
Universal Studios is assembling a movie titled “Untitled Fletcher Project,” with producers Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Amy Pascal involved. All three of these talented individuals have existing agreements with the studio, which is managed by Donna Langley.
At this point, details about the character and plot are still undisclosed. The screenplay is written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, who previously wrote “Dumb Money,” the story behind the GameStop stock scandal that was later developed into a film by Craig Gillespie for Sony Pictures.
Representatives for Curtis and Universal had no immediate comment on the matter.
Universal Television created the long-running television show “Murder, She Wrote,” which premiered in 1984 and continued for 12 seasons. Angela Lansbury’s performance as an unconventional detective, who found herself in dangerous predicaments while maintaining her usual politeness and carrying a practical handbag, earned her recognition in many homes. At its peak, the series attracted approximately 40 million viewers each week, and it consistently drew around 25 million viewers per episode until its conclusion.
I’ve been basking in the glow of my Academy Award win for Best Supporting Actress, which I earned two years ago for my role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Now, I find myself back on the awards trail with my latest project, “The Last Showgirl,” directed by Gia Coppola. It’s a heartfelt tribute to the once-glamorous ladies of the Las Vegas strip. Next up for me is working alongside the legendary James L. Brooks in his upcoming film, “Ella McKay.
Deadline first reported the news of the Curtis talks.
