10 MCU Characters We’re Happy to Say Are Never Coming Back

Over the past twenty years, Marvel has introduced a lot of new characters. While some have become well-known and important parts of the Marvel universe, others haven’t lasted very long. Many of these characters only appeared briefly in Marvel movies and shows, even though they were originally meant to play bigger roles. Honestly, that’s probably for the best, as their stories didn’t really fit into the overall narrative.

A few of these characters were created simply for laughs, and others were planned for more significant roles that didn’t resonate with viewers. With the Multiverse Saga wrapping up, it’s unlikely we’ll see these MCU characters again as the franchise moves forward. Luckily, most fans aren’t upset about their departure.

Ralph Bohner Was A Huge Disappointment

Okay, so after playing Quicksilver, I was super hyped when Evan Peters showed up in *WandaVision* – everyone, myself included, thought he’d be another version of Pietro. Boy, were we wrong! He turned out to be Ralph Bohner, this totally normal neighbor who Agatha Harkness was controlling to mess with Wanda. Then, in *Agatha All Along*, we got to see what happened to Ralph *after* everything went down, and it was pretty dark – he was completely paranoid and messed up from the whole ordeal.

Wyatt Russell’s role as John Walker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was relatively minor, so his appearance in the *Agatha All Along* song is already a nice bonus. It’s unlikely the character will be back, and most fans aren’t upset about it, still frustrated by how he was misleadingly presented in *WandaVision*. Hopefully, Marvel Studios will find a more substantial and satisfying role for the talented Evan Peters down the line.

Dane Whitman Had No Character Development

The 2021 film *Eternals* introduced Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, a love interest for Sersi. Comic book fans quickly realized this character was more than just a romantic addition, as Whitman is secretly the Black Knight – a lesser-known Marvel hero. The end of the movie confirmed this, showing Whitman receiving the Ebony Blade, the Black Knight’s iconic weapon.

When the movie *Eternals* came out, Kit Harington was fresh off the huge success of *Game of Thrones*. With Marvel looking to introduce new heroes, he potentially signed a long-term deal to play the role. However, *Eternals* wasn’t successful, and Marvel has essentially moved on from the film and its characters. Harington is now focused on other work, making a return to the role unlikely. While it’s a bit disappointing, it’s not overly upsetting considering his character wasn’t very well-developed to begin with.

Justin Hammer Became A Footnote Soon Enough

Justin Hammer, a rival weapons maker, always felt inferior to Tony Stark’s intelligence and wanted to eliminate him as competition. While he intended to be Stark’s main enemy, Ivan Vanko emerged with a more personal grudge. Ultimately, Hammer wasn’t a strong villain independently, but he committed several crimes by aiding Whiplash and attempting to murder Tony Stark, resulting in his imprisonment – where he probably still is.

I always thought Sam Rockwell was fantastic as Justin Hammer, but honestly, the character felt a little wasted. He was mostly there for laughs, with a slightly cynical twist, as Sam himself put it. Now that Tony Stark is gone, there’s not much reason to bring Justin back, and if I’m being honest, most of us don’t really want him to. He just didn’t make a huge impact on the Marvel movies.

Korg’s Humor Won’t Make Sense Without Taika Waititi

There’s a lot of speculation about what’s next for Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with some fans thinking his latest appearance might be his last big adventure. Even if that’s not true, significant changes are coming. Director Taika Waititi, who brought a distinctive style and humor to the Thor films, has confirmed he won’t be involved in any future installments. This means the tone and feel of the movies will likely shift, and we probably won’t see some familiar elements, like the character Korg, return.

Since Taika Waititi both directs and voices the character Korg, and Korg often delivers Waititi’s signature humor, it’s likely Korg won’t appear in future Thor films if Waititi isn’t involved. Many fans hoping for a more serious Thor storyline actually welcome this change, as Korg’s comedic relief started to detract from the main plot.

Leonard Samson Had Nothing To Do With His Comic Counterpart

Okay, so in *The Incredible Hulk* movie from 2008, they brought in this character, Leonard Samson, played by Ty Burrell. He was a psychiatrist from Culver, and honestly, he got stuck in a pretty awkward love triangle with Bruce Banner and Betty Ross. Now, this Samson was *based* on Doc Samson from the comics – that guy’s a super powerful gamma-powered being named Leonard Skivorski Jr. But the movie version? They really didn’t do the character justice, it was a totally different take.

Because Marvel Studios doesn’t often reference *The Incredible Hulk* and Ty Burrell’s role as Samson was minor, it’s unlikely he’ll reprise the part. Most fans are okay with this, as his portrayal of Samson wasn’t very faithful to the comic book version, which many hope to see accurately adapted in a future film or series.

Sharon Carter’s Storyline Jumped The Shark

Emily VanCamp first appeared as Sharon Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during *Captain America: The Winter Soldier*, but her story didn’t end there. Initially a strong ally to Steve Rogers, she later returned in *The Falcon and the Winter Soldier* after a brief romantic connection with Captain America. It was then revealed she was secretly the criminal mastermind known as the Power Broker, operating in Madripoor.

Okay, so the show tried to explain Sharon Carter’s heel turn by saying she was mad the government left her hanging after the Blip, but honestly, it didn’t really land for me. It even created some confusing stuff, like why she’d help Bucky and Sam in the first place! And then, just like that, she’s back with the CIA like nothing happened? After running a whole criminal organization for years? It felt…off. Honestly, I’m not even upset if we don’t see her again. She kind of ran her course in the MCU a long time ago, in my opinion.

HulkKing Was Unremarkable

In the Disney+ series *She-Hulk: Attorney at Law*, Todd Phelps, a wealthy man with an obsession with She-Hulk, emerged as the primary antagonist. He dedicated his fortune and energy to stripping Jennifer Walters of her Hulk abilities, believing she wasn’t worthy of the power. He ultimately used her blood to transform himself into a more powerful Hulk, calling himself HulkKing.

Ultimately, She-Hulk took control of the situation and had Todd arrested, preventing him from gaining powers and rendering all his efforts with Intelligencia meaningless. He hasn’t appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since *She-Hulk: Attorney at Law*, and it’s unlikely he will. His story concluded with that series. While he introduced the potential for more gamma-powered characters, his contribution to the Marvel Universe was limited. Most fans would rather see new gamma characters come directly from the comics than original creations.

It’s Simply Too Late For Harley Keener

Harley Keener, a young boy who befriended Tony Stark when Tony unexpectedly entered his garage, became a close ally to Iron Man. He acted as a source of emotional support and helped Tony become a better person. Because of their strong connection, many fans hoped Harley would reappear in the future, possibly even carrying on Tony Stark’s work.

In the end, Harley Keener never reappeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and with Tony Stark’s passing, it’s unlikely he ever will. That’s understandable, as his story was so closely tied to his relationship with Iron Man. While Marvel could potentially introduce him as a character like Iron Lad, it wouldn’t carry the same emotional weight if it happened after Tony’s death.

Sersi Was A Very Boring Character

Okay, so looking at all the Eternals in the MCU, I think Sersi is *definitely* the main character. She’s the one who really got to know humans – she genuinely loves us! That’s why she chose to help humanity, even though it put her at odds with the rest of the Eternals. It’s a shame though, because even being that empathetic and caring didn’t exactly make her the most popular one in the group.

Gemma Chan is a talented actress, but her character, Sersi, in *Eternals* wasn’t very engaging. There was a lack of spark between Sersi and her love interests, Ikaris and Dane, and the movie didn’t give her character enough depth. As a result, most fans aren’t upset about her character’s absence. Her story felt bland, particularly when compared to the comic book version, which depicted her as a fun-loving socialite who became a superhero.

Starfox Is Too Controversial

A surprise post-credits scene in *Eternals* introduced a new hero to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Starfox, also known as Eros. As the brother of Thanos, his appearance was unexpected. In the scene, Starfox and his companion, Pip the Troll (played by Patton Oswald), encounter Thena, Makkari, and Druig, offering to help them locate the remaining members of their team. What made this cameo particularly surprising was that Starfox was played by singer Harry Styles.

The scene after the credits hinted at a continuation of the *Eternals* story, but because the film wasn’t successful, Marvel decided not to pursue it. This probably means we won’t see the character Eros in future Marvel movies, and that might actually be for the best. Eros is a complicated character – he can control people and manipulate their feelings – and has even faced accusations of sexual assault. Adapting him for the screen would be problematic and likely cause controversy.
