As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen it all – from the pixel-perfect beauty of the early 90s to the jaw-dropping realism of modern games. The trailer for Kyora, the new game from Core Keeper developers Pugstorm, caught my eye like a rare gem in a sea of cookie-cutter releases.
The game called Kyora is being developed by Pugstorm, who are known for creating Core Keeper. A sneak peek at this new title was revealed during the pre-show event of The Game Awards. This teaser showcases players constructing a manor-like structure, delving into mines, and battling goblins using swords and magic spells. At the end of the trailer, there’s a hint of something sinister, resembling a dark heart, deep within Kyora’s world.
On its Steam description, it’s stated that Kyora supports multiplayer collaboration among up to eight individuals online. Unlike Core Keeper, which featured a top-down perspective, Kyora adopts a side-scrolling visual style. The trailer reveals multiple players donning distinct outfits and armaments, such as witch hats and cloaks. The game’s pixel art isn’t merely for aesthetics; players have the ability to adjust each pixel to construct their bases. During gameplay, they can also alter the environment during battle, crafting cover to hide behind or platforms to leap upon.
Similar to many games within its genre, Kyora’s universe is dynamically created and includes various landscapes such as deserts and forests. In this expansive world, players can gather materials and ingredients from different environments to enhance their armor and weapons, create powerful magic wands, prepare beneficial concoctions, and more. Discovered seeds can be brought back to the home base for planting. Each unique landscape has a formidable boss, referred to as a Herald, which players must defeat using resources specific to each environment.
The trailer had no release date or window, only stating that the game can be wishlisted on Steam.
