Balatro's Next Free Update Adds Eight More Crossovers Today

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must admit, Balatro has truly captured my heart. The recent announcement of Friends Of Jimbo 3, a free update to this delightful card-based roguelike, is music to my ears.

I can hardly contain my excitement as The Game Awards are almost upon us! Even though Balatro is nominated for Game of the Year, it’s not sitting idle while we wait for Geoff Keighley to grace the stage. In fact, just hours before the event, Localthunk and PlayStack have dropped a bombshell – they’re releasing Friends Of Jimbo 3! This free update to their popular card-based roguelike game adds eight new friendly faces to your face cards for an even more exciting run. Can’t wait to see how this one unfolds!

In a fresh trailer, it was revealed that Ben Starr, known for lending his voice to Clive Rosfield in Final Fantasy XVI, Prometheus in Hades II, and various other characters, will portray the jester Jimbo of Balatro in the upcoming release. The trailer further unveils the eight diverse guests featured in Friends of Jimbo 3, which encompass both indie sensations and extensive role-playing games (RPGs).

The list of games included in the Balatro Friends Of Jimbo 3 pack is below:

  • Divinity: Original Sin 2
  • Don’t Starve
  • Enter the Gungeon
  • Cult of the Lamb
  • 1000x Resist
  • Potion Craft
  • Shovel Knight
  • Warframe

In the game Balatro, you’ll find yourself in a unique deckbuilder experience that combines roguelike mechanics with traditional card play. The objective is to amass the highest possible score while battling against unseen opponents known as “blinds.” To enhance your score, make use of Joker cards which offer temporary power-ups, and Planet or Tarot cards that grant lasting advantages for a specific game session.

Back in February, I stumbled upon an unexpected indie gem that took the gaming world by storm, available on consoles and PC. Come September, it made its way to mobile devices as well. Ever since its debut, this game has been downloaded over 3.5 million times! Its impressive success has landed it five nominations at The Game Awards – including Game of the Year, Best Direction in a Game, and Best Independent Game. To top it off, it was recognized as one of TopMob’s Top 10 Games of the Year for 2024. Needless to say, I can’t stop playing this incredible game!
