First Civilization 7 Modern Age Civ Reveal is a Cultural Powerhouse

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say, the anticipation for Civilization 7 is palpable. The confirmation of Mexico as a Modern Age civilization adds an exciting twist to the game’s dynamics, especially considering my personal affinity for the rich and vibrant culture it represents.

As the release date of Civilization 7 approaches week by week, we’ve been seeing a steady flow of information about its various leaders and civilizations. In a unique twist from previous games, Civilization 7 divides its timeline into three distinct eras: Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern Age. While earlier announcements centered around the Antiquity or Exploration Age, Mexico has now been confirmed as the first civilization to appear in the Modern Age for Civilization 7.

First Civilization 7 Modern Age Civ Reveal is a Cultural Powerhouse

One intriguing enigma regarding Civilization 7 lies in the variety of choices available to players during the Modern Age. Given that multiple civilizations are planned for each of the game’s distinct eras, there has been much fan conjecture and sneak peeks of those that will be unveiled at a future time.

As a devoted fan, I’ve caught tantalizing glimpses from gameplay footage hinting at the emergence of Buganda, France, Meiji Japan, and Mughal India. However, it seems none of these have been officially unveiled by Firaxis Games. Instead, the first official Modern Age revelation shines its spotlight on the vibrant cultural powerhouse that is Mexico.

With this announcement, a total of 22 civs have been confirmed across all three ages. The Antiquity Age has 10 confirmed civilizations, the Exploration Age has 11 confirmed civilizations, and the Modern Age has just one confirmed but four others discovered with official details expected in the coming weeks.

Regarding the actions players can perform with this civilization, Mexico serves as a culture-rich and diplomatically inclined civ. The unique form of government, Revolución, enables players to accumulate an abundance of Culture points during Celebrations. However, this is the sole Government type available for selection.

As an enthusiast, I’d express it like this: “I find Mexico brimming with civic structures that offer strategic military benefits, significant diplomatic edge, and ongoing cultural prosperity. Notably, Mexico boasts a distinctive plaza (Zócalo) and two iconic buildings (Catedral & Portal de Mercaderes), which mainly contribute to culture but can occasionally yield happiness or gold dividends as well.

Users of the game will find a variety of distinctive Revolutionary units inspired by historical figures such as Antonio López de Santa Anna and Pancho Villa at their disposal. Additionally, Mexico will have one exclusive wonder, which aligns with their cultural influence. The Palacio de Bellas Artes can be constructed to boost happiness and offer additional Great Works slots.

In Civilization 7, there will be several possible routes for players, but given the current previews, it seems most fitting to choose Pachacuti as your leader. If you’re interested in a path steeped in history, begin with the Maya, transition to the Inca during the Exploration Age, and eventually evolve into Mexico in the Modern Age. However, there will be numerous other factors to consider by the time Civilization 7 launches globally.
