What to know:
- Bitwise Asset Management released its 10 Crypto Predictions for 2025.
- Major cryptocurrencies will likely make new all-time highs in 2025, said the report.
- Among the other predictions: The number of nations holding crypto are likely to double and five crypto companies could launch U.S. IPOs.
As a seasoned researcher with over two decades of experience in the financial industry, I must admit that the predictions made by Bitwise Asset Management for 2025 have piqued my interest. Having closely followed the crypto market since its inception, I’ve seen more than a few unexpected twists and turns. However, the bullish outlook presented by Bitwise seems grounded in current trends and recent developments.
2024 proved to be a significant year for cryptocurrency as the introduction of spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds saw great success, the U.S. regulatory landscape for crypto became more favorable with Donald Trump’s reelection, and the positive market trends contributed to a bullish price action.
However, as per Bitwise Asset Management, a company that focuses on creating cryptocurrency investment solutions, the year 2025 might witness an increase in the level of craziness. In a report published on Wednesday, the company’s Chief Investment Officer, Matt Hougan, and Head of Research, Ryan Rasmussen, have outlined ten predictions about the future state of crypto for the upcoming year.
According to Bitwise’s predictions, it is expected that significant cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana will achieve unprecedented highs. Specifically, Bitcoin could reach $200,000, Ether might touch $7,000, and Solana is projected to more than triple in value to approximately $750.
According to Bitwise, Bitcoin’s growth may be significantly driven by greater ETF investments beyond 2024 compared to what was seen in 2024. This prediction is robust considering their past achievements, but it’s not surprising for ETFs to attract larger inflows in the second year rather than the first. Also, they emphasize that major financial institutions are just wrapping up their evaluation of these products, and investors are becoming more confident in expanding their Bitcoin investments.
It’s possible that the U.S. Department of Labor may become more favorable towards the cryptocurrency sector, as suggested by Bitwise. This potential shift could result in a significant influx of funds – up to tens of billions of dollars – from 401(k) plans into crypto assets.
A possible Bitcoin competition – initiated by U.S. politicians’ intentions to create a strategic Bitcoin reserve – could undeniably push prices higher. According to Bitwise, the number of nations owning Bitcoin may double from nine to eighteen by 2025.
Other possibilities for 2025
According to Bitwise’s prediction, the value of stablecoins is expected to surge significantly in the U.S., driven by clear regulations, advancements in fintech integration, escalating prices, and potentially doubling their total market capitalization to a staggering $400 billion.
As an analyst, I find it intriguing that tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) might surpass a valuation of $50 billion, given the increasing involvement of Wall Street in this specific sector.
2025’s meme coin craze might surpass this year’s frenzy, thanks to the simplicity provided by AI agents in creating and launching tokens.
As a crypto investor, I’m optimistic about the coming year for crypto companies, as Bitwise has predicted a fruitful year for them. Several of these companies might even go public via an Initial Public Offering (IPO), according to Bitwise. The ones that seem most likely to take this step include Circle, a stablecoin issuer, Figure, a crypto lending firm, Chainalysis, an on-chain data company, Kraken, a crypto exchange, and Anchorage Digital, a crypto custodian.
As a crypto investor, I’ve been closely watching the performance of Coinbase (COIN). According to Bitwise’s predictions, the stock price could potentially reach $700 per share or even higher, which is more than twice its current value. If this happens, Coinbase would surpass Charles Schwab to become the most valuable brokerage in the world. This is an exciting prospect!
Bitwise proposes another possible implication: Coinbase might become part of the S&P 500 index. When combined with MicroStrategy’s probable addition to the Nasdaq 100, it’s plausible that many U.S. investors could indirectly invest in cryptocurrencies via these financial instruments.
