As a passionate advocate for representation and diversity in media, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the acquisition of ‘Nurse Unseen’ by Abramorama! This film, which shines a light on the heroic efforts of Filipino nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic, is a testament to the resilience and dedication of our healthcare workers. I’m particularly excited about Abramorama’s commitment to bringing this vital story to both Filipino and non-Filipino audiences worldwide, as it not only provides a shared, meaningful experience but also empowers cinemas to engage a broader, more diverse consumer base.

Abramorama Acquires Oscar Qualifying Documentary ‘Nurse Unseen‘

I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve secured the worldwide distribution rights for theatrical screenings and direct-to-audience platforms for the award-worthy documentary feature, ‘Nurse Unseen’, produced by Michele Josue.

The film ‘Nurse Unseen’ was created by Josue, Carlo Velayo, and Joe Arciaga, with Jhett Tolentino and Jo Koy holding the roles of executive producers. This documentary delves into the accounts of Filipino nurses who bravely served on the frontlines during the COVID-19 pandemic, amidst a surge in anti-Asian hostility.

As a cinema enthusiast, I’m overjoyed to express that ‘Nurse Unseen’ has been an incredible journey of passion for our community, particularly our extraordinary nurses. It gives me immense pleasure to announce that we are now joining forces with Abramorama, enabling us to share this crucial and significant film with a broader global audience.

Abramorama’s president and international distribution head Evan Saxon expressed great enthusiasm about collaborating with Michele Josue, Carlo Velayo, Jhett Tolentino, and Jo Koy to share the film ‘Nurse Unseen’ with audiences worldwide, both Filipino and non-Filipino. The success of their recent film ‘Hello, Love, Again’, which became the highest-grossing Filipino film ever, surpassing many Hollywood studio releases, demonstrates a strong appetite for Filipino cinema among moviegoers. These culturally rich stories offer a shared, meaningful experience to audiences and help cinemas reach and connect with a wider, more diverse audience base.

Abramorama plans to expand the theatrical release of ‘Nurse Unseen’ in more cities across the U.S., and later, organize screenings in various countries worldwide.

International Cinematographers Guild Appoints New Regional Directors

As a member of the International Cinematographers Guild (ICG, IATSE Local 600), I’m thrilled to share that our leadership has made some changes. They’ve appointed Joey Brenner as the Central Region Director and promoted Anna Nowlan to the role of Eastern Region Director.

Alex Tonisson, ICG’s national executive director, expresses his excitement as he introduces Joey and Anna to their fresh positions,” says the statement. “Both of them show great enthusiasm for advocating for our members and strengthening the labor force within the entertainment sector.

Lately, Brenner held the position of Organizing and Bargaining Director with the SEIU-Florida Public Services Union. During his tenure, he oversaw a team of organizers, providing guidance, and successfully negotiated several collective bargaining agreements amid tumultuous times like the Great Recession and the COVID-19 crisis.

Deborah Lipman, the first national vice president, expresses her enthusiasm about the wealth of knowledge, talent, and background in labor issues that Joey is expected to contribute to our organization, given his extensive history in the labor movement,” says Deborah Lipman.

Nowlan joined the ICG as a business representative for the Eastern Region in April 2019.

Chris Silano, the national vice president, praises Anna’s long-standing efforts, stating that during her time with the union, she has relentlessly advocated for our Eastern Region members and our entire membership. He further expresses his delight in announcing her new position within our community.

Circle Management Production and the Anarchists United Foundation Announce Writers’ Fellowship

The Circle Management Plus Production team, along with the Anarchists United Foundation, has begun accepting applications for their 2025 Circle M+P – Anarchists United Writers Discovery Fellowship program.

This fellowship is specifically tailored for budding TV writers. It will carry on its collaboration with the Lilly Wachowski Foundation, offering guidance and backing to a broad range of promising new talents in the Hollywood scene. Each year, the Fellowship chooses between six and eight writers who haven’t worked in film or television before, inviting them for a comprehensive six-month program. During this period, they will focus on creating a pilot script ready for submission, expanding their professional connections, acquiring necessary skills for future achievements, and receiving a $10,000 grant to aid their projects.

As a film enthusiast, I can’t help but share my excitement about the upcoming Fellowship at Circle M+P. Lawrence Mattis, who masterminded this program, emphasized that as our industry navigates consolidation and recovers from recent upheavals, it’s crucial now more than ever to sustain a platform like this one that nurtures a vibrant community of rising writers. I’m thrilled to announce that Circle M+P and Anarchists United are set to present another remarkable cohort in 2025, serving as a reminder to Hollywood that the discovery and backing of fresh creatives with unique viewpoints is the very essence of our shared passion for storytelling.

Selected Fellows will also receive access to Final Draft.
