As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that this update has me quite intrigued. The tweaks to the weapon mechanics and melee attacks feel like they could really shake things up in the world of Black Ops 6. The reduction in Frag Grenade inner radius damage might make me reconsider my reliance on that trusty old explosive, but I’m always open to trying new strategies.
As a fervent fan, I’m thrilled to share that an update has dropped for both Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone on December 10th! The patch notes bring about significant weapon alterations across all game modes. These changes include tweaking the movement and idle sway of weapons, as well as boosting headshot damage for numerous guns in Black Ops 6. Can’t wait to jump back in and feel the difference!
As per the update details, all weapons in Black Ops 6 will experience modifications in their movement behavior and idle stability. These changes aim to reduce visible recoil, turning sway, and idle sway, as well as minimize weapon bobbing due to player motion.
As a game enthusiast, I’ve been thrilled today by the significant adjustments we’ve made to weapon motion across all classes. These tweaks have resulted in a smoother combat experience, with reductions ranging from 30% to 75%. This means you’ll now experience enhanced stability when turning, moving, switching stances, and firing, making your gameplay more fluid and immersive than ever before!
— Treyarch (@Treyarch) December 10, 2024
As a gamer, I’d put it this way: “Hey, gamers! We’ve been tuning up the action here at Treyarch. We’ve given all weapons a good once-over and made some adjustments to their movement for a smoother combat experience. The exact amount of tweaking varies by class and weapon, but you can expect reductions ranging from 30% to 75%. Let’s get back out there and feel the difference!
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but feel the thrill as I dive into the updated gameplay of both Warzone and Black Ops 6. The developer has worked wonders, making turning, moving, changing stances, and firing, especially when aiming down sights, much smoother and stable for us players. These improvements are universal across all modes in these games, promising an even more immersive and enjoyable gaming experience!
In Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the time it takes for all weapons to stabilize after aiming has been significantly reduced from 4.4 seconds to just 2.2 seconds, which is a 50% decrease. Moreover, sniper rifles in this game will no longer have any idle sway while aimed.
Furthermore, let’s make melee combat more agile in every game mode. We’re speeding up the attack rate by approximately 7.5% for knives, 14% for baseball bats, and 9.5% for power drills in melee strikes.
Regarding modifications exclusive to Black Ops 6, Treyarch has outlined weapon enhancements that amplify the impact of headshots on many automatic primary weapons. The Krig C, Model L, and GPR 91 assault rifles have seen an increase in their headshot multiplier, rising from 1.15 to 1.25. Additionally, minor headshot multipliers have been implemented across all submachine gun classes. Furthermore, the CHF Barrel has undergone adjustments on multiple guns to boost the headshot multiplier when this attachment is used.
The patch notes include a few notable changes for Zombies. In addition to stability improvements, the update addresses an issue where players could previously get an AFK warning while actively running around. It also squashes bugs that previously impacted steps of the storyline Easter egg quest for Citadelle des Morts.
In essence, the recent update for Warzone primarily involves tweaks to the weapons as previously mentioned. However, there’s a minor alteration to the Ranked Play mode in Battle Royale. From now on, Buy Stations in Ranked Play will consistently appear at specific locations throughout each match. These locations mirror those found in Warzone’s casual game modes.
Further details about the adjustments are provided below. For a closer look at weapon balancing in Black Ops 6 and Warzone, check out the information provided by Activision.
For Call of Duty updates, it’s been revealed that there will be a partnership with Squid Game coming up in the next month. The latest Season 1 Reloaded has introduced additional multiplayer maps, celebrated with the Merry Mayhem holiday event, and added new DLC weapon options.
GLOBAL
Weapons (MP/ZM/WZ)
In our latest update for Black Ops 6, we’ve made extensive adjustments to the way weapons move, aiming to enhance the overall combat experience. The reductions we’ve implemented affect various aspects like turning, moving, changing stances, and firing, with a focus on making these actions more stable. These changes are particularly noticeable during ADS (Aim Down Sights). We’ve set our targets for these adjustments to range between a 30% and 75% reduction across different classes and weapons. Our goal is to consistently improve Black Ops 6’s gunplay, ensuring it remains balanced, engaging, and true to each weapon’s unique traits.
- Weapon Motion
- Reduced visual recoil on all weapons, especially full-auto weapons.
- Reduced turn sway on all weapons, especially on higher magnification optics.
- Reduced gun kick on higher magnification optics on all weapons except for Sniper Rifles.
- Reduced default idle sway on all weapons except Sniper Rifles.
- Further reduced idle sway while firing on all weapons except Sniper Rifles.
- Reduced weapon motion (bob, translation, and additional idle sway penalties) as a result of walking or changing stances in ADS.
- Removed additional layers of hip fire deviation, which caused crosshair to bounce while firing.
The Idle Sway Delay feature adjusts a weapon’s stability when switching to aim down sights (ADS), ensuring the starting point of aim aligns with the crosshair placement. This system has been refined for better consistency across all weapon types. Previously, only Sniper Rifles reduced idle sway by 50% upon ADS; now, they offer a full reduction in this regard. As usual, we’ll monitor the impact on sniper balance following these adjustments.
- Aiming Idle Sway Delay
- Aiming Idle Sway Delay on all weapons is now 2.2s
- Aiming Idle Sway Delay on Sniper Rifles now fully removes Idle Sway, rather than reducing by 50%
- Target Laser now improves Aiming Idle Sway Delay to 2.9s on all weapons

Weapons
In the gaming community, there’s been a lot of debate about the impact of headshots on full-auto primary weapons. To enhance the power of headshots, we are implementing changes in Black Ops 6. Our goal with hit location modifiers has always been to minimize inconsistencies, particularly during various types of player movements. However, we recognize that players have developed muscle memory and expectations related to headshots. So, we aim to design our gunplay to align with these established habits.
Generally speaking, it takes one less headshot to decrease time-to-kill (TTK) for most types of weapons, except for Submachine Guns (SMGs) at their maximum damage range. We’re careful not to make TTKs too quick with SMGs. To balance things out, we’ve expanded the ranges for SMGs to help them retain their advantage in close quarters. Additionally, we’ve tweaked the Close-Quarters Fighting (CQF) Barrel attachments on all updated weapons to stay ahead of the new standard values.
In Black Ops 6, we anticipate that this modification will significantly alter the balance of weapons (or weapon dynamics), particularly when combined with our adjustments to weapon motion. We’ll keep a close eye on how the new game meta develops to ensure that a diverse range of individual weapons and weapon classes remains robust.
Melee
We are improving melee weapon attack speeds, especially on the two-hit kill weapons. Our goal is for all melee weapons to feel unique and satisfying to run, and we will continue to find ways to hit that target while ensuring that melee is not frustrating to play against.
- Knife
- Time between melee swings improved by 7.5%
- Baseball Bat
- Time between melee swings improved by 14%
- Power Drill
- Time between melee swings improved by 9.5%
Equipment
- Reduced Frag Grenade inner radius damage to allow survival with Flak Jacket equipped.

Stability
- Various stability improvements.
ZOMBIES
Maps
- Citadelle des Morts
- Addressed an issue where players could get an AFK warning while actively running around the map.
- Addressed an issue where loading a save after obtaining the four incantations would prevent players from entering the Final Encounter.
- Addressed an issue where the light beams for obtaining the amulet would not be visible if a player disconnected and rejoined a match while in a squad.
Weapons
- Addressed an issue where changing default attachments on a Blueprint Weapon would not apply in a match.
Stability
- Various stability improvements.
RANKED PLAY
Adjustments
- Buy Stations
- Buy Stations in Warzone Ranked Play will now spawn at the same, fixed locations each match – identical to those found in our unranked modes.
The system called Ranked Play is set up to reduce randomness as much as possible. By keeping buy stations in fixed locations, we encourage consistent player rotations and recognize players who have good understanding of the maps. Furthermore, an upcoming adjustment will optimize the layout of the buy stations to eliminate any potential blind spots, ensuring a fairer gameplay experience.
FIELD UPGRADES
Adjustments
- Munitions & Utility Box
- Both boxes have been adjusted to provide the maximum possible amount of ammunition for the primary and secondary weapons a player is carrying.
- It will no longer provide ammunition for each other ammunition type.
