As a seasoned player of Honkai: Star Rail, I can confidently say that the Harmony Path has been a game-changer for me, and here’s why. With years of battling under my belt, I’ve come to appreciate the versatility and power that the Harmony units bring to the table.
In the latest update, Honkai: Star Rail has introduced its tenth Harmony unit, named Sunday. However, where does he stand among this impressive lineup of talents? Star Rail continues to set the bar high as the premier gacha game. Compared to its predecessor, Genshin, and other games in the HoYoverse, many consider Star Rail as one of the best, if not the top pick in the gacha genre. As the 3.0 update approaches, it will introduce the Remembrance Path, a feature centered around characters who summon servants.
The Harmony Trail is abundant with characters designed to boost their teammates, particularly the DPS members. It seems that almost every character has had their moment in the spotlight or found an ideal team to complement them perfectly. Whenever a 5-Star unit hails from the Harmony Path, they become a highly sought-after character, regardless of whether a player is free-to-play or a spender.
10. Hanya Is The Runt Of The Litter
Physical 4-Star
Unfortunately, Hanya stands out as the least effective among this gifted group of Path characters. She was one of the pioneering hybrid-like figures who specialize in weakening opponents to amplify team damage, while simultaneously aiding in skill point generation. Her ultimate ability offers a 20% speed enhancement and a 60% attack boost, but these benefits don’t necessarily justify including her in teams.
Apart from her combat equipment, Hanya’s main challenge lies in her infrequent use in team compositions. While she can work effectively with various Damage Per Second (DPS) units, other Harmony units tend to fill her role more suitably. This applies not only to 5-Star characters but also to the 4-Star Harmony units she competes against. As a result, Hanya often finds herself as a less preferred option, even for players with a limited roster of characters.
9. Asta Has Gotten Better, But Other Options Exist
Fire 4-Star
Asta, initially one of the Harmony units that later detached but then got rejuvenated with the advent of Break teams, possesses a straightforward kit. She accumulates attack boosts through her abilities, and her final move grants a speed increase. Yet, she can be cumbersome to control without Eidolons because her stacked buffs tend to deplete rapidly, consequently eliminating the attack bonus.
The primary reason she is frequently overlooked is due to these limitations she possesses. On the other hand, Ruan Mei and Trailblazer are superior choices for Break teams. Conversely, Guinaifen performs more effectively with DOT (Damage Over Time). Generally speaking, Asta is a character that most, if not all, players will initially use, but she becomes less useful rather quickly.
8. Yukong Is On The Rise
Imaginary 4-Star
Initially, Yukong was considered a less common choice for support units, but she has rapidly transformed into one of the top free-to-play options. Despite having a relatively straightforward kit, it packs a significant punch. One of her skills enhances attacks for two turns, while her ultimate significantly increases critical hit rate and damage.
Her significant surge can largely be attributed to figures such as Feixiao and Yunli, whose performance heavily depends on crucial statistics. Compared to Yukong, 5-Star Harmony units remain superior; however, she avoids the steep decline that other 4-Stars experience, making her an ideal fit for cost-effective teams, or for players who own 5-Star Harmony characters but prefer using them elsewhere.
7. Tingyun Is Versatile And Strong
Lightning 4-Star
Tingyun was one of the strongest Harmony units when she was released, and has only fallen due to the immense strength of the 5-Stars. Her skill gives allies an attack buff for three turns, while also allowing Tingyun to chip in some damage. However, it is her ultimate, which gives a damage bonus for two turns and restores 50 energy to the target, that gives her a place. Especially since, if built correctly, it is entirely possible to have this back in two to three turns.
Tingyun shines particularly well in Hypercarry team compositions, which happen to be the most popular ones. This means she’s an exceptional asset for any gaming account and can serve as a reliable substitute when necessary. However, it’s worth noting that she doesn’t come with action advances or critical boosts, which are her only potential drawbacks.
6. Bronya Has Fallen But Is A Good Baseline
Wind 5-Star
Bronya was the initial 5-Star Harmony unit that many players can acquire eventually. Her unique ability was the first to progress an action, causing the target to take their turn right away, while also increasing their damage by 66%. This feature is combined with her (initially strong) ultimate move, which enhances the entire team’s attack power and critical damage, based on Bronya’s own stats.
Bronya is extremely beneficial for new players and performs a crucial role in hypercarry DPS, even lending a hand to dual DPS teams. However, one significant disadvantage of Bronya is that more recently released characters offer superior scaling buffs. Despite this, Bronya offers players their first glimpse into the potent abilities that define this Path.
5. Harmony Trailblazer Was One Of One
Imaginary 5-Star
During phases 2.3 to 2.7, Harmony Trailblazer, often abbreviated as TB, emerged as the top choice for Break Teams. This was primarily because they possessed an extraordinary ability that amplified the Super Break damage dealt by every team member when attacking enemies with weaknesses already broken. This boost lasted for three consecutive turns, and with a well-designed setup, this effect could be efficiently renewed when it expired.
The decline of Harmony TB can be attributed to the introduction of Tingyun Fugue in Honkai: Star Rail. This formidable Fire Nihility unit offers the same capabilities as Harmony TB for Break Teams, but also boasts Super Break damage as part of its passive talent. Consequently, Tingyun Fugue simplifies the consistent application of superior damage, thereby allowing the Trailblazer to explore other Paths.
4. Sparkle Has Unfulfilled Potential
Quantum 5-Star
In simpler terms, Sparkle, one of Harmony’s characters, has been significantly affected by the recent game shift. Her skills mainly amplify damage and critical damage, with added benefits like providing extra skill points and refreshing four when she uses her ultimate ability. However, her action advance, though it exists, only advances by half, requiring her to be nearly 160 speed for it to consistently act immediately, which can be challenging to achieve.
In the upcoming version 3.0, it seems that the focus is moving towards Break teams and summoning units, leaving Sparkle somewhat out of favor. While she might find some utility since other Harmony characters are getting summon enhancement mechanisms like Sunday, this won’t result in a significant boost for her. One challenging aspect of her current state is that her main DPS combinations feel awkward to execute. Currently, Dan Heng IL is no longer a top-tier choice, and although Acheron remains viable, Sparkle performs best with Acheron only when she has her second Eidolon, which limits the number of Nihility characters required for maximum ultimate damage output.
3. Robin Is The Queen Of Follow-Up Teams
Physical 5-Star
Robin excels particularly well when it comes to follow-up attack (FUA) teams. This is because she possesses exceptional skills, amplifying every ally’s critical damage by 20% and providing her with two energy for each ally attack. The regeneration of this energy is significant considering her ultimate ability, which significantly boosts her team’s attack power and instantly activates their actions at a high cost. To top it off, Robin also has a team-wide skill that raises all allies’ damage output by 50%.
In essence, Robin stands out as the top Harmony unit for FUA teams, which have consistently garnered attention. At present, Dr. Ratio and Feixiao are the leading choices due to their impressive performance; however, if required, Robin can be utilized across other teams too. Yet, she shines most brightly when teamed up with FUA groups.
2. Sunday Is On The Horizon
Imaginary 5-Star
Similar to his sister, Sunday and his top builds are among the elite choices for Harmony. Despite being recently introduced, he has already proven himself deserving of this recognition. His abilities resemble Bronya’s in many ways, but his damage boost, though slightly lower, also increases a teammate’s summon by 50%.
On Sunday, it’s ideal for deploying Remembrance/summon teams, given that Jing Yuan has already demonstrated his skills with him. However, it’s important to note that he isn’t limited by this alone. While his critical damage boost may not match Sparkle’s, his exceptional critical rate and energy regeneration make him an excellent addition for other units. Unfortunately, Acheron is a role where he doesn’t stand out as the top or nearly top choice.
1. The Versatile Ruan Mei
Ice 5-Star
Ruan Mei stands out as the premier Harmony unit, boasting a diverse array of abilities that make her indispensable. Unlike other units, she lacks advance actions and critical buffs, but her strengths lie elsewhere. Her damage boost, efficiency in breaking weaknesses, speed enhancement, and all-type resistance penetration are hard to overlook. Additionally, the second part of her ultimate ability delays an enemy’s turn even more when they are weakness-broken.
In summary, Ruan Mei stands out as the optimal choice for Break teams and performs admirably across all formats. Although certain teams might prefer another unit for specific roles, replacing Ruan Mei with another character would be a slight reduction in quality, if at all noticeable. It’s this remarkable adaptability that elevates her to the position of the top Harmony unit in Honkai: Star Rail.
Generally speaking, the Path of Harmony tends to be powerful when a new character debuts, and this has held true since Ruan Mei’s introduction. Sunday has also demonstrated comparable strength. It will be intriguing to observe how this pattern might change with the arrival of another Harmony character in version 3.1. Here’s the current ranking for every Harmony unit within Honaki: Star Rail.
