Golden Globe Reactions: Ariana Grande Cries, Demi Moore Snuggles With Her Puppy Pilaf and Cynthia Erivo Realizes She Forgot to Call Her Mom

As a seasoned journalist, I have had the privilege of interviewing countless talented individuals from various walks of life. Each conversation offers a unique insight into the human spirit and the journey that led them to their current success. Today, I am thrilled to share with you two captivating stories that not only showcase the resilience and determination of these women but also highlight their exceptional talent in their respective fields.

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, during their time filming “Wicked” (as well as promoting the movie) often provided emotional support to each other. Consequently, it’s not unexpected that they connected via FaceTime right away after discovering they had been nominated for Golden Globes.

Erivo expresses her immense pride towards us and her, immediately following the announcement of the nominations. She excitedly shared, ‘Hello there, Golden Globe nominee!’ She finds it incredibly thrilling to have the opportunity to say that!

Simultaneously, Grande was connected via Zoom from the back seat of a vehicle en route to the airport. She held tissues in her hand and wore a sweatshirt from Shiz University.

Grande expressed that she’s quite a mess but also deeply appreciative. She had just been tearfully chatting with her mom via FaceTime (even though her username was ‘Galinda’). She kept tissues handy as she’d been crying here and there, almost continuously.

After garnering a remarkable 10 nominations in the musical or comedy category and breaking records, Zoe Saldaña savored her initial recognition by the HFPA. “It feels fantastic,” said Saldaña, expressing her joy over being acknowledged after decades of acting in blockbuster movies. “Eventually, I stopped dreaming about it.

Truly, regardless if it’s my debut like Grande and Saldaña, or my eighteenth nod like Kidman, the emotion is justified due to the significance of this recognition.

Demi Moore, the actress from “The Substance”, who received her first nomination since 1997, expressed it beautifully: “I don’t want to overanalyze it. Yet, I must remind myself: don’t underestimate it either. For if you do, you’ll overlook the delight and true essence of the beauty in all the effort that led to this moment.

Read on for more reactions from this year’s nominees.

Golden Globe Reactions: Ariana Grande Cries, Demi Moore Snuggles With Her Puppy Pilaf and Cynthia Erivo Realizes She Forgot to Call Her Mom

Congratulations on your first Golden Globe nomination! I imagine it’s been an emotional morning.

Absolutely, I’m quite a mess right now, but incredibly thankful. Just had a heartfelt conversation with my mom over FaceTime, and it left me speechless. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude to the point where I don’t know how to express it! I even have tissues handy as I’ve been intermittently crying throughout this emotional outpouring.

Have you spoken with Cynthia Erivo this morning?

Initially, she was the very first voice message I dispatched, swiftly followed by a FaceTime call. I’m immensely proud of her and elated to experience this journey together. Every individual who has invested their utmost in producing these films deserves a round of applause. The entire situation feels incredibly surreal yet breathtakingly beautiful.

After about two weeks since the premiere of “Wicked,” could you share some of the most memorable instances where fans have interacted with the movie and its soundtrack?

It’s tough to choose just one, but I adore observing how they meticulously turn even minor aspects into something delightful. Whether it’s mastering the dance routine or creating TikToks as if they were Glinda’s grandmother spotting the hat on the news, or baby Nessa expressing her enthusiasm with a simple “yes!”, witnessing their affection for the intricate details that resonate so deeply with us is truly heartwarming. It’s like discovering hidden treasures that we weren’t sure anyone else would appreciate. The constant exchange of links showcasing these little gems adds to the overwhelming sense of beauty, wonder, and excitement.

As we’ve moved deeper into the thick of the award season, I’ve noticed a buzz around the possibility of Cynthia and I potentially taking the stage at the Oscars. Now, the idea has certainly crossed my mind, but I can’t help but wonder if this is something you’d consider as exciting as I am?

Wow, it’s barely been five minutes, yet… It’s hard to believe, but I’m at a loss for words! The only thing I can say for certain is that we are deeply appreciative for this conversation and the recognition of our efforts. As for what lies ahead, we’ll have to wait and see.

Did you watch “Wicked” at the cinema with your loved ones? Could you describe your experience and let me know if you felt comfortable joining in the singing during the show?

Cynthia and I truly appreciate singing along with “One Short Day,” yet for most of the time, we tend to keep things rather tranquil. However, observing people’s reactions is a joy that makes it all worthwhile – it’s quite extraordinary. My 99-year-old grandmother, in particular, showed tremendous excitement when she saw the sugar glider playing the drums at the Ozdust Ballroom. She actually gripped my arm and exclaimed, “Oh, I adore this!

As I eagerly anticipate the release of “Part Two” in just under a year, I can’t help but ponder over the thought of embarking once more on the whirlwind journey that is the press tour. It’s a unique opportunity to share my thoughts and insights with fellow movie enthusiasts, so I must admit I’m quite excited about the prospect!

It’s incredibly thrilling! I’ve had an exceptionally enjoyable and unique adventure with my sister, Cynthia. We’ve been savoring every moment together and staying mindful. We’re filled with excitement and gratitude, which might sound cliché, but it’s truly authentic. We don’t feel burdened or intimidated. Instead, we feel grateful and bubbly with anticipation. After putting in so much effort for such a prolonged period, it’s a tremendous honor to be able to present our work to the world and discuss its intricacies.

We’ve found ourselves brimming with anticipation after wrapping up the initial phase of our press tour. A flood of ideas about delving deeper into this journey on its next leg has arisen. The excitement is palpable now that our creation has been unveiled to the world, as we look forward to offering further insights into the experience. It’s akin to prolonging our time with characters we have grown so affectionate towards and bonded with, forming an Ozian family. Spending more time on this endeavor is simply delightful.

Have you been yearning to play the character Glinda for some time now? Reflecting on it, what emotions do you experience as you’re being acknowledged with awards for your performance in that role?

Oh my goodness, I’m overwhelmed [expresses emotion]! I apologize if I sound incoherent. This moment feels so unreal, I struggle to find the words. I’m touched beyond measure and filled with gratitude. I’ve long admired this role and understood its demands, having looked up to numerous talented actresses who have portrayed it before me. I knew the commitment required, and all I ever wanted was to do justice to it. From my very first audition to my final day on set, I felt nothing but gratitude for this opportunity. To see this recognition after such dedication – it’s truly awe-inspiring. I am deeply grateful, and I can hardly wait to call my acting coach, Nancy Banks, no matter where she is in the world. I’ll wake her up if I have to; I don’t mind the inconvenience. She’s likely across the country, but that won’t stop me from sharing this joy with her.

Has this experience sparked a desire within you to take on more acting projects? Are there specific characters or film roles that you’re eager to delve into further?

Currently, I’m making an effort to focus on the here and now. However, acting is where I truly belong, and I eagerly anticipate discovering more opportunities to delve deeper into that realm.

Are you wearing a Shiz sweatshirt?

    Yes! This is a coincidence.

    Cynthia Erivo

Golden Globe Reactions: Ariana Grande Cries, Demi Moore Snuggles With Her Puppy Pilaf and Cynthia Erivo Realizes She Forgot to Call Her Mom

Who was your first call after you heard the news?

Initially, I reached out to my trusted team member Sam, who works in publicity. I found myself saying, “Hey, what’s up?” My phone had been going haywire with missed calls, so I decided to give her a ring. To be honest, I was baffled about the situation since I had received countless calls without knowing the reason. It was early morning here in Los Angeles, and I had just arrived yesterday, causing my mind to spin, “What’s happening? This is insane!” Next, I intended to contact my best friend and felt an urgent need to call my mom. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to get a hold of her yet! The events of this morning have unfolded so rapidly that it feels like I’m juggling cartwheels in my mind.

Is the “Wicked” group chat going crazy right now?

I’m absolutely thrilled to be part of the dynamic “Wicked” crew alongside Jon M. Chu and Ari Grande. I can’t help but feel a sense of immense pride for us, as well as for the collaborative efforts we’ve put into this project. It’s been quite an exhilarating journey! The team messages we’ve been receiving have added to the excitement. Honestly, it’s all felt incredibly special.

How does it feel being nominated alongside Ariana, albeit in different categories?

Her performance was simply amazing! I’m incredibly proud of her for pulling it off. It’s a wonderful feeling that we could share this experience together. To see her make such an impressive debut on the big screen, leaving everyone in awe – it’s truly remarkable. I feel so proud of us both. I couldn’t help but be thrilled when I found out she had been nominated for a Golden Globe! It’s incredibly exciting to be able to call her a fellow nominee!

You’ve received your fourth Golden Globe nomination, and each time it has been in a different category. What’s it like to be acknowledged for your contributions spanning various forms of media and productions?

I was quite surprised when I realized this morning, as it hadn’t occurred to me before – I simply hadn’t connected the dots. Yet, it’s heartwarming to be appreciated for my diverse works, spanning various mediums, styles, and environments. It truly means a great deal to me.

“‘Wicked Part Two’ will arrive next year, and we have two fresh tunes penned by Stephen Schwartz. What do you think fans are going to be thrilled to immerse themselves in from this fresh music?”

As a movie reviewer, I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on this captivating film. It delves deeper into the lives of its compelling female characters, offering insights into their pasts and aspirations for the future. The music in this production is nothing short of extraordinary. While I can’t reveal specific tracks, rest assured that you’ll recognize some tunes. However, to maintain the element of surprise and avoid potential trouble, I’m unable to disclose more about the songs’ roles in the storyline. Trust me, there are familiar melodies woven into the narrative in intriguing ways.

Would you and Ariana be open to performing at the Oscars?

Absolutely! I’m happy to join her in song at any location. Should you require our presence, you may find us harmonizing in the nearby alleyway. Our shared passion for music transcends places and time – we simply enjoy singing together.

In recent times, there’s been a wave of humor online about the feelings Ariana and I have expressed during our press tour. Can you help me understand where these emotions originate?

It’s surprising how many people aren’t aware that our involvement with this project stretches back nearly three years. We were assigned the roles in 2021, but filming didn’t commence until well into 2022 and extended into 2023. We wrapped up this year, at the beginning of 2024. In essence, it’s been an incredibly prolonged journey, one that we’ve both longed for over a significant period. This project holds deep emotional significance for us, and it’s touched us in profound ways. It demanded every ounce of our energy, and during those months of production, we couldn’t reveal the experience to anyone.

Ultimately, when we’re on this press tour, conversations often revolve around the shared experience of watching something we both adore. The enthusiasm and feelings expressed by others are contagious, making it challenging not to mirror their emotions as we talk passionately about our beloved project. It’s a special moment to share our feelings with someone dear, learn new insights about each other’s creative processes, and uncover aspects that were previously unknown. During this press tour, there have been revelations that we are still processing. Essentially, it’s two people being authentic and vulnerable, and I hope it inspires similar emotions in others. With everything going on, a bit of shared emotion would be beneficial for all.

    Glen Powell

Golden Globe Reactions: Ariana Grande Cries, Demi Moore Snuggles With Her Puppy Pilaf and Cynthia Erivo Realizes She Forgot to Call Her Mom

The film was released in May, following its premiere at SXSW. Catching the eye of voters for films released that early, particularly those in the genre category, can be challenging. Why, though, does “Hit Man” seem to hold such appeal?

What a crazy turn of events. But the best audience feedback comes over time. “Hit Man” is an empowering movie about the person you can be if you put your mind to it. People have responded to that. There’s also a lot of joy there. The movies we watch at this time of year, they can leave you with a different feeling. Ours leaves you a little fuller, It was designed to be thoughtful and make you smile. Always leading to a better place in terms of your identity and how people feel about themselves. And to go on this journey with [Richard Linklater], an inspiring Texan who works at the highest level…

In addition, there’s a persistent suspicion that films might go missing on streaming platforms. However, it appears that’s not happening in this instance.

It’s fantastic that you raised the topic! I appreciate the effort Netflix put into this film, not just making it a significant cultural event, but also capturing the right tone for their PR and marketing efforts. For instance, consider those bus ads featuring various of my hitmen characters – they truly got it right.

Given the incredible year you’ve had, I was wondering if you’re planning a grand celebration. It seems like such an event would be fitting for all that you’ve accomplished!

2021 has been quite an extraordinary year. As an actor, I’ve grown accustomed to the ups and downs, but each peak moment seems to carry with it a reminder of the alternative paths my life might have taken. I never lose sight of how fortunate I am. Right now, I’m speaking to you from the set of “The Running Man,” and my family is here to join in the festivities. We’re celebrating!

What’s the most surprising thing about your take on “The Running Man”?

Edgar Wright is one of my favorite filmmakers. A lot of sci-fi and other movies in this genre rely on VFX. We are doing so much practically in this film. The sets are huge and the stunts are practical. As a fan of Edgar, this movie will not disappoint.

    Zoe Saldaña

Golden Globe Reactions: Ariana Grande Cries, Demi Moore Snuggles With Her Puppy Pilaf and Cynthia Erivo Realizes She Forgot to Call Her Mom

Who are you with, and who was the first person to congratulate you?

I’m currently in Paris with my trusted team – Vera Steimberg for makeup, Petra Flannery for styling, and my agent Jessica. Being away from family, I felt a lot of love and admiration. My friends were the first to congratulate me, followed by a call from my husband in California, and then I woke up my mother.

    What was your mom’s reaction?

Initially, I roused her from sleep, giving me a moment to explain the situation. My mother, as she often does, offered a prayer. She proceeded with her customary act of praying, and the moment was truly moving. She expressed her pride in me, acknowledging my efforts and stating that this success is well-deserved. Such words hold immense value when they come from your mother.

“How does it feel to be a part of the record-breaking musical or comedy nominated for the most Golden Globes, as Emilia Pérez?”

Nearly unreal, it’s a cinematic experience that transcends expectations. It’s the kind of film that stirs deep emotions within you, fostering a genuine human connection. That’s what makes this movie truly extraordinary. Since my audition for Jacques Audiard, I find myself consumed by thoughts, but it’s more about embracing feelings rather than logic.

Is there a group chat for the “Emilia Pérez” team?

Absolutely! We’re always in touch. After giving my mom and husband a call, I also left a message for Selena, as it’s a privilege to be nominated alongside her. I’m well aware of the effort she puts into her work, and I admire her deeply, knowing she truly deserves this nomination. I promptly sent her a voice message, and soon enough, she responded with one of her own, sounding just as emotional, filled with tears and excitement. It was a heartwarming moment. Next on my list is Jacques, followed by Camille.

“You’ve been nominated for your first Golden Globe! It’s hard to believe considering your impressive body of work. Can you tell us how it feels?

In that regard, I find it incredibly satisfying. Over time, I ceased to expect more and believe better was on the horizon. Our relentless effort stems from a fundamental desire to forge connections with others. This is why an artist creates art; they don’t hoard it away in a closet or create it solely for their own enjoyment. They produce it to establish bonds and share it with countless individuals. Consequently, when what you produce resonates, it instantly establishes a connection, albeit temporarily.

Doesn’t the Golden Globe award consider live-action performances over CGI motion capture, making it impossible for “Avatar” films to be nominated? Is it time for these organizations to revise this rule?

I’ll continue to wish that individuals, scholars, and professionals in various fields come to appreciate the essence of performance capture and its impact on artists. This technique grants artists complete ownership over their creations, as it doesn’t involve cloning or imitation. Instead, the artist is the one who puts in all the hard work, while technicians add finishing touches in post-production. Unlike a casual studio session in sweatpants, performance capture requires you to lend your voice and physical movements, which are then translated by others into on-screen actions. Each character that has been brought to life through performance capture was initially performed by an actor or stunt artist, and I hope one day it will receive the recognition it deserves, as it’s unfortunate when the effort and sacrifices behind these films go unnoticed.

    Nicole Kidman

Golden Globe Reactions: Ariana Grande Cries, Demi Moore Snuggles With Her Puppy Pilaf and Cynthia Erivo Realizes She Forgot to Call Her Mom

Who were you with when you got the nomination?

While preparing to send my eldest daughter Sunday Rose off to school, my younger daughter was under the weather, making for a busy day of work and parenting. Sixteen-year-old Sunday, in her haste, exclaimed, “Congratulations on your day! I’ve got to catch the bus; I’m already running late.

Do you have a “Babygirl” group chat? If so, what’s the vibe?

Instead of speaking face-to-face, I prefer to send texts when I want to communicate with either Harris Dickinson or Halina Reijn. I’m thrilled because even though this recognition is for me personally, it’s really for our upcoming film “Babygirl.” This attention we’re receiving helps pave the way for our project. I express that this success belongs to us all: Antonio Banderas, Harris, Halina, Sophie Wilde, and Jasper Wolf, our cinematographer. For my character Romy to be effective, the film as a whole had to succeed.

Aside from Sunday, who was the next person to congratulate you?

Keith Urban has departed for Los Angeles where he’ll appear on Jimmy Kimmel’s show. So, before leaving, he said, “Congratulations, my dear.” (Informal)

What does it mean to see audiences connecting with Romy?

This storytelling approach presents fresh ground, being innovative as the A24 leader described it. Unlike any other film, it explores a woman’s existential sexual and emotional turmoil throughout its entirety. Its unconventional start and finish make it unique, but not overly specialized – this is advantageous because it maintains a broader audience appeal, avoiding being confined to a narrow niche.

Are there any recent developments regarding the upcoming projects, “Practical Magic 2” and “Big Little Lies”? I’m curious to know more.

It takes time. We’re looking to 2025 as the year for it.

    Sebastian Stan

Golden Globe Reactions: Ariana Grande Cries, Demi Moore Snuggles With Her Puppy Pilaf and Cynthia Erivo Realizes She Forgot to Call Her Mom

You’re a double nominee, for “The Apprentice” and “A Different Man.” How do you feel?

I must say I’m quite amazed. What a fantastic day! It’s truly remarkable to consider the challenging paths both movies have taken. We made “A Different Man” two years back, but it ended up being put on hold due to the strike. Just being here… And “Apprentice,” that film has been in the making for five long years. This whole situation is incredibly humbling and rewarding.

With the din of the recent elections fading, what message or insight would you like people to carry away after watching “The Apprentice”?

Our mission is consistently seeking understanding, and as innovators, it’s essential we stay vigilant about the era we inhabit. This involves asking tough questions and maintaining our curiosity. The election has underscored the need for a deeper comprehension of this individual [Donald Trump], going beyond simplistic interpretations. Typically, we analyze history once it’s occurred. However, we now have the opportunity to delve into it as events unfold. I hope more people feel empowered to scrutinize this narrative more openly. Today symbolizes a progression towards public dissection of this topic without apprehension. Let’s be cautious of fear.

    How will you celebrate?

    I gotta call my mom.

    Cooper Koch

Golden Globe Reactions: Ariana Grande Cries, Demi Moore Snuggles With Her Puppy Pilaf and Cynthia Erivo Realizes She Forgot to Call Her Mom

Did you wake up at 5 a.m. to watch the nominations being announced?

Initially, I intended to snooze through it, but somehow my body spontaneously awoke, and when we turned it on, I wasn’t expecting much. Yet, something unexpected transpired, and I was left utterly astonished.

Why were you ready to be disappointed?

It’s always uncertain how situations might unfold, which is why setting no assumptions seems wise. When the event occurs, it can be incredibly overpowering due to its unexpectedness.

Let’s examine the actors you will be competing with: Colin Farrell, Richard Gere, Kevin Kline, Ewan McGregor, and Andrew Scott.

I can’t help but feel awestruck when I look at this lineup. With my years of experience and accomplishments under my belt, it still feels surreal to find myself listed alongside these giants in our field. It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication that has gotten me here, but also a reminder of how much there is yet to learn and achieve. Being in such exalted company pushes me to raise my game even higher, to make the most of this opportunity and continue to grow as an artist/scientist/leader. It’s an experience I will never forget.

Did you scream, did you cry when you heard your name?

I’m usually one to shed tears easily, but in this instance, I remained dry-eyed. The adrenaline rush was immense, leaving me exclaiming, “Oh, my God! Oh, my God!” Instead of weeping, I found myself wrapped in a warm embrace with my filmmaker partner, Stuart McClave, who expressed his pride in me.

Who did you hear from first? Who texted you right away?

My group reached out to me via FaceTime, visibly excited. However, I also received a congratulatory text from Colman Domingo separately.

When will you start writing your acceptance speech?

I think I’m just gonna wing it [laughs].

Who will you bring to the Globes?

My companion is my twin brother, Payton. It could be that I’ll need to choose between them in some sort of contest, but perhaps there’s a way I can include both.

What kind of meetings and scripts have you been getting since “Monsters”?

I’ve been meeting with some truly fantastic producers and directors, as well as discussing projects with various studios. I feel incredibly fortunate to have signed with UTA because they’ve been instrumental in setting up these meetings for me, and overall it’s been an incredible experience. There isn’t anything specific I can share at the moment, but I’m being selective and patient about the opportunities that are coming my way, and I feel incredibly lucky to be where I am now. It all feels quite dream-like.

Have you heard from Kim Kardashian this morning yet?

No, not yet. She’s probably still getting her beauty sleep.

She should be sending you a Skims basket or something.

    Maybe [laughs]. We’ll see.

When was the last time you spoke to Erik Menendez?

It’s been some time, but I hope we reconnect soon. I reached out to Tammy not long ago, simply to express my affection.

How are you feeling today about Erik and Lyle’s chances of being released from prison?

I feel good. I still have cautious optimism, because you just never know with these things. They pushed their latest court date, so that was a little disappointing because I know that their family members are older and they wanted them to be home for the holidays. I’m still really positive. One of the first things that I thought about when I got the nomination was: “Oh my gosh, this gives me another moment to have a stage and a platform to advocate for them and speak about them.” I’m super grateful that I get to do that again.

Besides “Monsters,” what other series have you been watching?

During the filming of the program, conversations shifted towards “Baby Reindeer,” which piqued my interest. Consequently, I ended up watching it all in a single day and became quite fond of it. The series “Ripley” is fantastic, while I’ve yet to complete “Disclaimer.

Have you seen “Wicked”? Are you a musical boy?

Oh, yes. When I couldn’t sleep last night, I kept singing, “I’m limited,” from “For Good.”

As an out actor in Hollywood, have you been hearing from young LGBTQ people thanking you?

As a movie reviewer who’s proudly off social media, I cherish any opportunity to amplify voices often overlooked in the film industry, particularly those of young individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community. Seeing them represented on screen brings me immense joy and fulfillment, knowing that I can serve as an ally and a role model for those seeking inspiration.

Why don’t you have any social media? Do you have secret accounts?

I honestly don’t own one, no Finsta account here. It doesn’t suit me or benefit my mental health. However, I may catch glimpses of things as people occasionally forward interesting posts to me via a tweet.

    Coralie Fargeat

Golden Globe Reactions: Ariana Grande Cries, Demi Moore Snuggles With Her Puppy Pilaf and Cynthia Erivo Realizes She Forgot to Call Her Mom

What was your reaction when you heard about the nominations?

I let out a triumphant yell within my apartment due to sheer joy, I’m certain my neighbors heard it too. This is an enormous honor and a fantastic accomplishment for our film. We poured our hearts and souls into this project, and it appears that our efforts have resonated with both the audience and the critics. It seems that the energy we invested has been translated, acknowledged, and celebrated. To me, this is truly remarkable.

How meaningful is it to you that a body horror movie like “The Substance” has managed to gain such acclaim at a prestigious awards ceremony?

Genre movies serve as both entertainment and a means for exploring political or social issues with an intense flair. Beneath the fun and amusement, they hold immense power to address complex matters in an engaging manner. The movie I had envisioned could convey all my intended messages effectively because it fell under the genre category, granting me the liberty to push boundaries and not be held back. I aimed to transcend all limitations and what’s unattainable in real life with this film.

Have you already congratulated Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley?

I swiftly messaged Demi and Margaret to offer my congratulations! I’m overjoyed because accepting this role was daring and tough. When Demi read the script, she was captivated by it. Performing in a movie like this demands full dedication, and you have to rely on the vision. You must be willing to take the risk of portraying what is written, with the tone, with nudity, with prosthetics, with everything. It’s a significant undertaking because until it’s completed, you need to trust the vision and strive for complete sincerity. And that’s exactly what she did. She possessed the intelligence and instinct, and she wasn’t afraid to venture there. She was at a point in her life where she wanted to take charge of her destiny and make a powerful move for herself.

Are you among the multiple foreign directors nominated for the Golden Globes this year? Does this signify a significant achievement in the competition among international filmmakers in the U.S. awards circuit?

It’s so great to see very different voices express themselves. I think that’s how cinema is still very much alive. It’s a medium that always creates new voices and visions, new ways of making films. And to see that all of these voices have been welcomed at the table, to me this is such a positive sign for cinema and for the industry that continues to transform itself and create new opportunities for filmmakers. It’s a great gift to include all of these voices, and I’m extremely proud to be one of them, and to be here with all the other talented filmmakers who I deeply admire.

    Demi Moore

“Your work, ‘The Substance,’ received a total of five nominations! What are your thoughts on all the affection being shown towards the movie?”

This film seems incredibly captivating and it’s clear that its influence extends beyond typical genre boundaries. It’s being recognized more broadly, rather than confined to a specific niche. I’m still absolutely spellbound by it, ever since its premiere at Cannes. The experience has left me awestruck throughout.

Once you got the good news this morning, who was your first call?

As a film enthusiast, I found myself beaming with pride as my team and I connected via FaceTime for an early morning celebration. My voice was barely audible due to the overwhelming emotion. I’m more coherent now, but the excitement still lingers! I’ve reached out to most of the other nominees, expressing my congratulations and sharing in our collective joy. I’ve managed to contact Billy Bob Thornton from “Landman,” Naomi Watts for “Feud,” and even Ryan Murphy. It’s a truly heartwarming moment! It’s been a while since I’ve been part of such a thrilling conversation – since the days of “Ghost.” I feel deeply honored and incredibly humbled by this recognition.

The fact that your movie is once again a contender for awards after such a long break of 35 years clearly reflects its powerful and thought-provoking messages.

Truly reaching this pinnacle is a first for me, at 62 years old. I find myself deep within, striving to be the best version of myself that I can be. My aspiration is to contribute to paving the way for change for women, and in doing so, for all humanity. It’s about encouraging us to look within and recognize our inherent worth, understanding that we matter just as we are, regardless of where we are in life. As I reflect on this film, its essence resonates with me: there is no superior version of you than the one you already are.

Have both Margaret Qualley, who starred alongside you, and Director Coralie Fargeat received nominations too? Did either of them reach out to you today?

I’ve been communicating with both Coralie and Margaret on one thread, but I’m unsure if Margaret has responded yet, she might still be asleep! However, Margaret was the first person I contacted because I hold her in high regard, deeply appreciate her, and feel fortunate to have shared this journey with her. I think she is incredibly gifted, and I believe she’s just scratching the surface of her potential. This project was a significant endeavor for everyone involved, it wasn’t an easy ride. Given that we weren’t certain if this would even work out, we had no idea how much impact the film would eventually have. So, receiving this recognition feels like a reward.

What was your dog Pilaf’s reaction to the news?

Before the usual feeding time, she was darting about on the bed! Indeed, it’s unusual for her to be up this early. She was wide awake and brimming with excitement. She was scampering across and even seeming to claw at the bed. I can’t tell if she was merely expressing hunger.

I choose to believe she knows it’s a big moment for her mom.

She’s gazing at me directly at this moment. You understand, she was my rock. In a strange land, she was the solitary piece of home I possessed. I lacked my typical support network, my family wasn’t around. Thus, I was essentially on my own, and she became my entire world. Upon reflection, it struck me that, regardless of where I am, when she’s present, I feel at home.

While we’re conversing, I’m finding that I’m unsure if I’ve truly grasped or fully understood everything you’ve shared. It seems like it’s all swirling around in my mind right now, and I haven’t quite internalized its implications yet. Perhaps it’s the apprehension of not wanting to overinterpret it. However, I must remind myself: don’t underestimate it, as that would mean overlooking the delight and splendor hidden within all the effort invested to reach this stage. As I mentioned earlier, it’s a little reward, like when your pets receive a treat and they become excited, moving, wiggling, and spinning around in joy.

The significance of “The Substance” lies in its familiarity as a tale often experienced by women. Historically, our voices have been sidelined. If we aspire for a shift in this pattern, it must begin with self-transformation – redefining our own perceptions and attitudes. I aim to contribute towards this change, ensuring that this issue becomes obsolete in the future generations.

Congratulations on your nomination! What were you doing when you first found out about the recognition?

Upon awakening, I glanced at my phone and found numerous enthusiastic texts from my community. I was still half-asleep and slowly regaining awareness. It’s truly fascinating to emerge from slumber into such thrilling news.

Who was the initial individual who congratulated you, and could you describe the feeling of being acknowledged not just by yourself, but also alongside Jean Smart and the entire show?

I firmly believe that Paul W. Downs, Jean, and Lucia Aniello are part of our team. Indeed, the first message I received was from them. Receiving this acknowledgment together with the show and Jean Smart feels incredibly meaningful. You see, we don’t take a day for granted without appreciating those who contribute to “Hacks.” We’ve been working together for approximately four years now, and we’ve formed such a close bond. We share laughter, tears, and are creating something that we all feel immense pride in. Moreover, Paul, Jen, and Lucia have significantly impacted my life by giving me the opportunity to be part of this show, and Jean has helped shape me into the actor I am today just by working alongside her and sharing scenes with her. In essence, this recognition is merely an added delight on top of a already wonderful experience.

Overflowing with enthusiasm. You understand, I believe everyone involved in our production acknowledges the unique and exceptional nature of being part of it. This thrilling journey has been marked by an abundance of truly astonishing accolades, and thus, we’re constantly grateful and savoring every moment of it.

What are you most excited for with Season 4?

I’m eagerly anticipating the audience of our show being able to view it and, in a sense, live through their perspective. There’s a strong bond between us and our viewers, so I can’t wait for them to watch it alongside us and share the experience together.
