As a seasoned movie buff with a penchant for character-driven stories and a soft spot for underdog narratives, I must admit that Bridget Everett’s performance in Somebody Somewhere has left an indelible mark on my cinematic heart. The series finale, much like closing the chapter of a beloved book, felt bittersweet, yet it also served as a testament to Everett’s extraordinary talent and her ability to breathe life into Sam, a character that resonates deeply with viewers.
The final episode of “Somebody Somewhere” aired on HBO last Sunday, but Bridget Everett, both star and writer, isn’t quite ready to part ways with her character Sam and the show’s cast yet. “In my imagination,” she shares, “the characters are still living, inhabiting the world of Manhattan, Kansas. I just can’t seem to stop envisioning this universe.
Could there be a chance that the series might return, perhaps as a sequel film or on another television network? She expresses her belief that its initial production was nothing short of miraculous. While she’s repeated this sentiment countless times before, she feels that HBO is the only platform capable of replicating such an extraordinary project.
To be honest, I’m keeping my options open in case a different network or streaming platform steps up to help continue this tale: “Why should I refuse an opportunity to wrap up this narrative, whenever and however it might occur?
According to Everett, it appears that other networks have not shown interest in continuing the series, which HBO discontinued in August (filming for season three concluded in the spring). She acknowledges a change.org petition circulating among fans, requesting HBO to revive the show, and as of now, this petition has garnered over 13,000 signatures. Everett is aware of what transpires between Sam and her Nordic love interest “Iceland” (played by Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) in the subsequent events, but she’s keeping those details under wraps for now.
She mentions, “If there’s a chance we could ever create a movie or something, I’d like to hold off on that for the future. If that opportunity doesn’t come, I plan to pen a book instead – it will be a memoir, and in the ‘Somebody Somewhere’ chapter, I’ll describe what I imagine might transpire.
For now, Everett is still grieving over what she refers to as one of the most significant experiences in her lifetime, humorously adding, “It seems like everything will be a piece of cake after this.
