Andrew Matarazzo to Lead Western Short ‘Roses’ With Ronen Rubinstein and Orlando Pineda (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for spaghetti Westerns and a soft spot for MTV alums, I must say that “Roses” looks like a promising addition to the genre. Andrew Matarazzo’s move from supernatural high school dramas to the dusty plains of the 1800s is an intriguing one, and his co-writing credit suggests a deep understanding of the characters he’ll be portraying.

Andrew Matarazzo, known for “Teen Wolf,” is jointly scripting and will act in “Roses,” a short film that follows the style of a classic Spaghetti Western set during the 1800s.

Under the direction and collaboration of Alexander Rain, the upcoming movie titled “Roses” will feature Ronen Rubinstein (“9-1-1: Lone Star”) and Orlando Pineda (“Griselda” and “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story”) as co-stars. Filming is set to commence on December 16th.

The movie’s summary states, “Two former criminal associates, Matarazzo and Rubinstein, encounter conflict when a rare opportunity for an enormous bounty arises. However, what appears to be a straightforward act of betrayal becomes complex due to their strong connection and mutual past. This leaves them with a painful decision: the treasure… or their friendship.

In this upcoming song titled “Roses,” Matarazzo, Hannah Avison, and Jesse Bluu collaborate on the lyrics. Notably, Bluu also produces the track alongside Davina Leone. Daniel Marks takes charge as the cinematographer for this project. Produced by Brian Pendleton of Drama Kween Inc. and Josh Farnworth, “Roses” is being prepared for submission to various film festivals in an extended version.

Known primarily for his standout portrayal of Gabe in the popular MTV series “Teen Wolf,” Matarazzo has also appeared on shows like “All Rise,” “Jane the Virgin” and this year’s “He’s All That” alongside Addison Rae and Tanner Buchanan.

For five seasons, Rubinstein played the role of T.K. in “9-1-1: Lone Star.” The series finale of this dramatic show started on September 23, and its final episode is scheduled for February 3.

Beyond “Griselda” and “The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story: Monsters,” Pineda’s work can also be found in “Narcos: Mexico,” “My Iron Lady,” and “The Infiltrators.
