Mark Withers, Television Actor on ‘Dynasty,’ Dies at 77

As a movie lover with a deep appreciation for the stories that shape our collective memories, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of loss with the passing of Mark Withers. His versatility as an actor, spanning from iconic television series to memorable guest appearances, has left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.

77-year-old television actor Mark Withers, famed for playing Ted Dinard in the initial “Dynasty” show, passed away on November 22nd.

It was confirmed that Mark Withers had passed away, as stated by his daughter, Jesse Withers. His cause of death was pancreatic cancer.

His daughter penned down her heartfelt remembrance of him, stating: “He faced his affliction with the same fortitude and grace he applied to his work, crafting a lasting impression of warmth, laughter, and devotion, in addition to his exceptional talent for making every character indelible. The industry will forever cherish Mark’s enduring skill and dedication, as will his peers, friends, and admirers.

Beyond portraying Ted, Steven’s boyfriend in “Dynasty,” Withers also made appearances as a guest star on various other shows, including “Wonder Woman,” “Magnum P.I.,” “The Dukes of Hazzard,” “Hart to Hart,” “Remington Steele,” “Dallas,” “L.A. Law,” “Days of Our Lives,” “Matlock,” “Kaz,” “The King of Queens” and “Frasier.

Over the past few years, I’ve been fortunate enough to expand my acting portfolio across both the small and big screen. From captivating audiences as a series regular on shows such as “True Blood,” “Criminal Minds,” “Sense8,” “Castle,” “Drop Dead Diva,” “Reckless,” and “Stranger Things,” to taking on various roles in films like “Basic Training,” “The Ultimate Life,” “Turn Around Jake” and “Bolden.” It’s been an incredible journey!

Before earning a Screen Actors Guild card or appearing in any television shows, he had already achieved great success as an athlete and was awarded an NCAA football scholarship to Penn State University.

He kicked off his acting journey by landing the lead role in a nationwide McDonald’s advertisement, following his discovery by an agent. Later, he appeared in other nationwide ads for well-known companies such as Folger’s Coffee, Irish Spring, Tartar Control Crest, and American Airlines.

He leaves behind his wife, Haiyan Liu Withers, as well as his daughter, Jessie Withers. Contributions can be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
