Path Of Exile 2 Passes Over 1 Million Early-Access Players, Dev Warns Of Server Struggles

With over a million fellow enthusiasts jumping on the bandwagon, it’s clear that Grinding Gear Games has struck gold again.

As the clock ticks down to when servers become operational, over a million gamers who pre-purchased Path of Exile 2 are eagerly awaiting the game’s launch. The developers at Grinding Gear Games were taken aback by these numbers and have issued a heads up about potential queue times this weekend.

Regarding X, the authentic Path of Exile account communicated their intention to be transparent about the current state of affairs for the action-RPG. In a recently published video, director Jonathan Rogers of Path of Exile 2 clarified that there might be waiting periods or queues during the game’s launch weekend.

We’ve just reached 1 million Early Access redemptions. The support you have all shown for Path of Exile 2 Early Access is far beyond anything we could have ever predicted. However we want to be upfront with you all and let you know there may very well be queues over the weekend.

According to Rogers, they’ve requested additional cloud capacity due to a rise in downloads for Path of Exile 2. However, the director remains uncertain about how the backend services will manage the surge of players at launch, as he hadn’t anticipated such a large scale during [early access].

Path of Exile 2 will be available for early access starting at 11 AM Pacific Time / 2 PM Eastern Time today, December 6, following the preload that began earlier this week. The initial price is set at $30 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a complete release anticipated around 2025.

Initially, it was planned for Path of Exile 2’s early access to begin around mid-November. However, unexpectedly, the release got postponed due to issues concerning the backend server infrastructure.
