Today, Square Enix revealed that the highly-praised role-playing game, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, has sold over 2 million copies worldwide. This remake, which IGN deemed as an exceptional example of updating a classic RPG, is now playable on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and Microsoft Store on Windows, following its global release on November 14.
Globally praised by critics, the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is a comprehensive overhaul of the 1988-released Dragon Quest III. This new version showcases the innovative HD-2D graphic style, a fusion of pixel art and 3D graphics. The narrative and the classic turn-based combat sequences remain loyal to the original, yet the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake offers numerous additional features such as voiced event scenes, orchestral music, a new “Monster Wrangler” profession, the “Monster Arena” for extra challenges, and additional storylines featuring Ortega, the protagonist’s father.
Furthermore, the original tale from Dragon Quest III, the first in the “Erdrick Trilogy” that fans are familiar with, has been enhanced to provide a smoother connection to the events occurring in the upcoming remake of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D. The remake of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D is scheduled for release next year.
The remade 2D version of Dragon Quest III is a fantastic choice for fans who loved earlier releases, novices discovering the Dragon Quest series, and gamers across all age groups – including those who usually shy away from role-playing games.
