Asmongold warns Nintendo’s Palword lawsuit sets “terrible precedent” for gaming

As a seasoned gaming enthusiast with decades of experience under my belt, I wholeheartedly side with Asmongold on this issue. His insights as a top Twitch streamer and industry insider are invaluable, and his concerns about the potential consequences of Nintendo winning the Palworld lawsuit resonate deeply within me.

Noted streamer Asmongold cautions that if Nintendo and the Pokemon Company prevail in their copyright lawsuit against Palworld, the entire gaming sector could face significant repercussions.

In September, the companies Nintendo and The Pokemon Company filed a lawsuit against game developers Pocketpair, alleging copyright infringement and seeking compensation of approximately 10 million yen ($66,000).

Among the patents allegedly violated is one that centers around tossing an object to subdue a mythical creature, reminiscent of a classic Pokemon move that has been a mainstay since its beginning.

Nevertheless, the prominent Twitch streamer Asmongold has expressed significant apprehensions regarding this matter, fearing potential negative impacts it might have on game creators and players who develop their own games.

Asmongold explains why Nintendo needs to lose Palworld lawsuit

During his Twitch stream, Asmongold viewed a Bellular News video on the Palworld predicament. Upon completion, he expressed his fervent hope that Nintendo might face some setbacks.

He remarked, “It appears to establish a disastrous pattern for game development.” In essence, this means that such a move encourages a situation where those creating new games are restricted due to the vast amount of established territories already claimed, leaving them little room to create their unique gaming worlds.

As per Asmongold’s viewpoint, the ability for companies to patent basic game features could potentially disadvantage players, since rather than developing full games, they might simply license mechanics instead.

He pointed out that it’s quite clear that this task is significantly simpler, and every business will strive to simplify matters for their own convenience.

Besides expressing his disagreement, Asmongold argued that it’s inappropriate for Warner Bros to hold exclusive rights over the Nemesis system in Lord of the Rings: Shadow of Mordor, a mechanism that fostered greater interaction between players and non-player characters (NPCs). He believed that such an innovative idea should not be subject to ownership.

In spite of the ongoing legal dispute, Palworld remains resilient and unyielding towards Nintendo, expressing their view of the situation as “regrettable” and proceeding with “necessary” legal measures simultaneously.
