Below Deck Sailing Yacht Recap: Sofa Bloody Sofa

As a seasoned sailor who has seen my fair share of stormy seas and calm waters alike, I must say that this latest episode of Sailing Yacht was as thrilling as ever. The crew seems to have found some semblance of unity after the great couch affair debacle, which, if you ask me, is a testament to their resilience and adaptability.

For those who fear blood or own white couches, be cautious at the start of this episode: At 11:30 PM, a large amount of Davide’s blood has spattered on the couch following Gary’s intoxicated actions of hitting him with a lollipop. Danni summons Daisy for help, but the chief stew seems unwilling or incapable, given her own drunken and strangely calm state, to handle the situation effectively. They spray cleaner on it, optimistically assuming it will disappear overnight. Gary attempts to pin the blame on Davide, while others point fingers at Gary.

In simpler terms, Gary retreats while others enjoy the hot tub and play a game where everyone shares something they like about themselves, as well as something they dislike. When Danni’s turn comes, she is honest about her energetic and open nature, but also her naivety and defensiveness. Danni seems to handle criticism better in this instance, but when it’s Keith’s turn, she feels attacked because Diana calls him a poor flirt. Keith responds that being a good flirt requires genuine interest, which Danni interprets as him not being interested in her. In the corner of the tub, Diana looks regretful for bringing up the topic.

At six in the morning, Daisy awakens, troubled by the persistent stains on various surfaces. She attempts to remove them, using more aggressive cleaning solutions and methods this time, yet admits that they might need a professional upholstery cleaner. Glenn queries why it wasn’t dealt with promptly, and Daisy suggests the truth – they were too inebriated at the time to think clearly about it. The captain finds their behavior disrespectful and gathers everyone for a meeting: “Everyone, gather in the lounge immediately.” This is the most Glenn has ever cursed throughout the series.

In a heated manner, Glenn scolds the team for sleeping while the couch was damaged. He mentions that if they couldn’t manage the boat, they should have woken him up instead. It seems as though they’re a group of adults acting like a high school sports team getting into trouble for partying, which is quite embarrassing. As a result, their day off has been canceled. Adorably, Glenn decides to go on the cave tour alone, leaving them to clean up the boat. The stews start working on the couch, and it does show some signs of improvement. Daisy expresses regret for not taking the situation more seriously, but they’re all united in being angry at Gary and Davide. After sobering up, Gary offers an apology to everyone. Daisy quips that he’s great at apologizing but not at changing his ways.

As I soak up fascinating details about caves, I can’t help but feel envious that others aren’t here too. After all, it was living in a cave in Crete, Greece back in the ’80s for nearly a month that ignited my passion for these natural wonders. Later, I shared a cold one with my tour guide, although I suspect if Cloyce weren’t around, the crew would have been more excited about the beer than the cave!

While they might not be extremely upset about skipping cave exploration, Danni is particularly disappointed she can’t visit the club where Anthony works. There’s a chance they could get another half day off, though. By the time Glenn comes back, the couch appears miraculously healed with no visible blood, just a wet and slightly pinkish or grayish stain. I’d be delighted if they could clean some white shirts for me. Glenn is still being tough and declares the boat isn’t perfect yet. He checks the boat thoroughly, then calls an assembly to impart advice: “If you can’t handle your drinks, then don’t drink.” The crew seems to have taken the message to heart, or at least put on a sorry expression. Glenn scolds Gary specifically for his lapse, but since the contracts for O Beach are probably signed and producers want more episode content, they’re permitted to visit the club.

In retribution, the girls bestow Gary with a birthday tiara and pink sash at the club, which might seem like a reward to someone who craves attention such as him. However, he doesn’t wear it at the club. Meanwhile, Daisy and Keith deepen their bond. During an interview, Keith hints that he’s moving up in the social hierarchy, a clever reference to his previous comment about Danni being with Anthony. As for Diana and Danni, they are on the lookout for attractive males. Diana struggles due to overthinking and reliance on Danni as her wingwoman.

In a less formal context, Anthony is acting as a host by flirting with Danni. It’s unclear if this is part of his job or if this specific event is considered a shift, because it seems that professional boundaries dissolve when he takes off his uniform. They both go for a swim in the ocean and share a kiss. The saying goes that if I had a nickel for every time Danni kissed a man in the water, I’d only have two, but it feels strange that this happened twice. And interestingly, the first man, Gary, isn’t too pleased about it. Later, Anthony returns to the boat with Danni, and Gary ends up in the car with them. He attempts to advise Anthony about Danni, which is awkward because he was the one who ended things with her. Whether intentional or not, Danni repeats a similar romantic gesture with Gary by jumping overboard from the boat with him. Now I have three nickels.

In the lower part of the house, Daisy retires to her upper bunk for the night while Keith approaches her. Once more, Gary intrudes, but it’s evident that Daisy prefers Keith. She doesn’t want him to depart and they exchange some uncomfortable gestures as he remains beneath her. At the same time, Diana weeps in her bed and Glenn is engrossed in watching ‘Predator’.

In the course of events, Danni secretly escorts Anthony to a location where she’s longed for intimacy throughout the season. Early one morning, she successfully slips him away without Glenn noticing, considering it a victory. When Diana queries about the encounter, Danni seems to indicate an exaggerated size with her hands, which strikes as unrefined conduct. Danni later confides in Daisy about Gary’s remarks during their ride, prompting Daisy to challenge him on the issue. She advises him to abstain from alcohol entirely, and we are presented with a series of flashbacks illustrating Gary’s drinking habits in prior seasons. As he grapples with his addiction, Gary acknowledges its presence but remains perplexed about why he continues to indulge. Meanwhile, Daisy finds herself reflecting on her own experiences as she examines her reflection in the mirror.

Reflecting on the recent events with the couch incident and collective discipline, it appears that bonding experience has brought us even closer together. We’re all feeling energized and enjoying each other’s company. I can only imagine how disheartening it would be for a newcomer to join us now and potentially disrupt this fantastic dynamic we’ve established…

Glenn informs Gary and Daisy that their new crew member is someone they’ve worked with previously. The preview hints at his description as tall, tattooed, which makes me think of Jean-Luc initially, but then I recall a guy from last season who had tattoos too – his name was Chase. Refresher: Chase was a Southern boy who excelled in his job but struggled with flirting, disrespected Gary, and improved his social skills over time. Upon hearing the news, Gary expresses dislike for Chase, but appreciates that he’s a good worker. Daisy isn’t thrilled either; she finds Chase’s puppy-dog energy irritating. She refuses to share a cabin with him or with Gary’s equally annoying counterpart, Cloyce, and Keith because she doesn’t want to complicate their budding relationship. Daisy also wants the junior stews to remain together, so it seems that Daisy and Gary will have to share a room. This is certainly going to lead to some drama!

Danni informs Keith she’s surprised he didn’t switch rooms given his easy-going nature among the guys. It seems her recent change in relationship status has made her friendlier towards him. Over text messages, both Danni and Anthony express a wish to meet up again, but Danni isn’t committed yet. She and Diana are excited about Chase returning, either because they haven’t watched last season or they’re eager to see more of him.

Chase intends to follow Gary’s approach when he’s watching and what he believes is the correct way when he’s not. It is revealed that Chase acquired his own yacht during the break, and his main goal now is to earn money for the boat’s upkeep rather than pursuing a romantic involvement with it, which the stews are unaware of. Diana seems to be hoping for a fling, but Danni has no intentions of stepping aside. Based on the sneak peeks, the second half of the season might escalate to the chaos we’ve grown accustomed to on Sailing Yacht, or it may offer at least one steamy hot tub moment as a festive treat to anticipate.
