As a seasoned cinephile who has witnessed the evolution of comedy television since the invention of the VHS tape, I can hardly contain my excitement for the impending return of two comedy legends to Saturday Night Live (SNL). Chris Rock and Martin Short will grace Studio 8H once more in December, each hosting an episode that represents a significant milestone in their respective careers.

On December 14th and 21st of this month, “Saturday Night Live” veterans Chris Rock and Martin Short will be back at Studio 8H. For Chris Rock, hosting on the 14th marks his fourth time in that position. And for Martin Short, who takes the stage on the 21st, it’s his third individual stint as host of the show.

As a movie buff and music enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that on December 14th, the talented musician Gracie Abrams will make her first-ever appearance as the musical guest. On another note, Short has invited the charismatic Hozier back for his second time as the musical guest.

This coming week’s episode of “SNL” will star Paul Mescal and Shaboozey, as was earlier mentioned. The December 7th broadcast is the show’s comeback following a three-week break over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Rock, who was an “SNL” castmember from 1990 to 1993, currently serves as executive producer and narrator of “Everybody Still Hates Chris,” a reimagined animated version of his autobiographical family comedy “Everybody Hates Chris.” The Emmy and Grammy Award-winning comedian, actor, writer, producer and director Rock last seen on the big screen in last year’s “Rustin.”

Speaking of Jon Lovitz, who was part of the “SNL” cast from 1984 to 1985, he is now starring in the Hulu series titled “Only Murders in the Building.

Grammy-nominated artist Abrams is currently touring in promotion of her latest album, “The Secret of Us,” while Hozier is set to unveil the deluxe version of his album “Unreal Unearth” titled “Unreal Unearth: Unending” on December 6.

Season 50 of ‘Saturday Night Live’ commenced with host Jean Smart and musical guest Jelly Roll. Further episodes featured Nate Bargatze and Coldplay on October 5, Ariana Grande and Stevie Nicks on October 12, Michael Keaton and Billie Eilish on October 19, and John Mulaney and Chappell Roan on November 2.

On November 9th, I had the pleasure of attending a special post-election episode, where comedian Bill Burr served as the host, and the talented Mk.gee graced us with her music. Meanwhile, on November 16th, Charli XCX not only performed but took on double duties! What a fantastic lineup!

On February 16th, “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) will be commemorating its 50th anniversary by broadcasting a live prime-time special. You can catch it on NBC at 11:30 pm Eastern Time, or stream it on Peacock. Notably, SNL is produced in collaboration with Broadway Video and was created and executive produced by Lorne Michaels.
