As a seasoned cinephile who’s had the privilege of witnessing the rise and fall of countless stars, I must say that Noah Beck’s foray into acting is nothing short of intriguing. With his humble beginnings as a soccer player and TikTok sensation, he’s now stepping onto the big screen in “Sidelined: The QB and Me.
TikTok star Noah Beck is ready for his close-up.
23-year-old ex-soccer player steps into the world of acting for the first time in “Sidelined: The QB and Me,” directed by Justin Wu. He takes on the role of Drayton, a popular high school quarterback, in this Tubi teen romance, opposite Siena Agudong, known from TV’s “Resident Evil,” as his love interest Dallas. The movie is an adaptation of the YA novel “The QB Bad Boy and Me” by Tay Marley on Wattpad.
For a considerable period, when the notion of acting crossed my mind, I found myself thinking, ‘This is what I desire.’ What intrigued me was the prospect of beginning anew, with minimal knowledge about the field,” Beck shares. “I was always yearning for something more and craving to engage in a creative endeavor that seemed greater than myself and collaborative. I believe acting and the industry, with its allure of movies, offers exactly that.
Beck’s popularity on social media really gained traction approximately four years ago. Today, he boasts an impressive follower base of 32.9 million (with a staggering 2.5 billion likes), and his following on Instagram stands at a strong 8 million.
I initially encountered Beck approximately a year past, during the GQ Men of the Year event held in Los Angeles. Back then, he mentioned his aspiration: “I believe my upcoming aim is to transition from the small screen to the large one.
Besides enrolling in acting workshops, he also started delving into script reading. As Beck puts it, “I found myself at a crossroads with social media, asking ‘What’s next? Where do I go from here?’ I didn’t want to limit myself anymore,” he explained. “So, I thought, ‘Why not?’ If a chance arises, why wouldn’t I seize it and say yes to everything that comes my way?
Beck, who produces “Sidelined” and is also an active user on social media, particularly TikTok, has no intention of abandoning these platforms. He shared that TikTok has significantly shaped him as a person and played a crucial role in his career success. In his words, “I don’t want to neglect TikTok because it’s what made me who I am, personally and professionally. I owe a lot of my achievements to it, and it’s not just work – it’s part of my life. It pays the bills, but more importantly, I enjoy it. As long as I’m still enjoying it, I will keep posting and staying active on it, while also pursuing movie-making opportunities if they come my way.
Beck accepts that his new venture into acting may attract negative comments. He admits, “People can be unkind and mean without provocation.” He further explains, “I don’t have a single bone in my body that seeks to cause problems. For the past few years, peace has been my guiding principle, truly. I am at my best when I uphold good values, when I do things that bring me joy and make those around me feel good.” Thus, he assures that any criticisms he encounters online, if they turn toxic or harmful in nature, won’t affect him personally because “they don’t know me.
He goes on to say, “When this film is released, there may be opinions voiced by others. However, I stand tall with pride for the project, and I’m overjoyed about all the hard work that has been put into it.
In the series “Sidelined,” James Van Der Beek portrays Beck’s father. When Van Der Beek announced in People magazine back in early November that he had colorectal cancer, Beck remembers it as a difficult moment. “It was heart-rending,” Beck recalls. “I quickly messaged him and said, ‘I don’t have many words, but you know I’m here to support you.’
Shortly following this, Van Der Beek graced the premiere of “Sidelined” in Los Angeles. Upon seeing him, Beck admitted to experiencing a shiver of excitement as his presence was truly remarkable. Not only did he attend, but he also endured the entire film, and subsequently sharing another moment with him was equally impressive.
