As an admirer of the creative arts and particularly the brilliant mind that is Armando Iannucci, this latest venture of his with Touchscreen and BBC Studios is nothing short of exhilarating! It’s like witnessing a master chef unveiling a new kitchen where he intends to concoct culinary delights that will tantalize our senses and challenge the status quo.
Armando Iannucci, the mind behind ‘Veep’, has started a fresh project in collaboration with the production house, Touchscreen. They’ve formed an alliance with BBC Studios.
In collaboration, these two entities will create and jointly produce groundbreaking, bold, and top-tier scripted content for both U.K. and international audiences, as stated in a recent press announcement. This content will be disseminated by BBC Studios. The objective of this partnership is to nurture and promote emerging British talent, both in front of and behind the camera, while also crafting stories that resonate universally.
Kevin Loader, Iannucci’s long-term collaborator from projects such as “In the Loop,” “The Personal History of David Copperfield,” and two seasons of “Avenue 5” on HBO, will additionally be present. Charlotte Draper is also involved in the production team as a development producer.
Iannucci expressed in a statement that Touchscreen’s projects aim to mirror, challenge, or honor the reality of our lives. He will be maintaining his association with HBO, while also having the chance to cultivate fresh creative minds and ideas through Touchscreen. He is thrilled about joining forces with BBC Studios for this endeavor, as it was at the BBC where he honed his skills. The objective of Touchscreen, in collaboration with BBC Studios, is to provide a platform for others to discover their voice and connect with their audience. Together, they aspire to create shows that push boundaries, spark conversations, and inspire us to reconsider our world from a new perspective.
Mark Linsey, president of scripted at BBC Studios, expressed his joy stating, “It’s fantastic that BBC Studios will collaborate with Armando and Touchscreen. Nurturing fresh British talent is essential for our creative sector’s future, and I can’t wait to see the new talents and compelling narratives we can create together.
The deal between Iannucci and BBC Studios was brokered by Lucy Fairney at PBJ Management.
Iannucci kick-started his professional journey at BBC Scotland and BBC Radio 4, where his radio program “On the Hour” transformed into the television show “The Day Today,” giving birth to the Alan Partridge character, played by Steve Coogan. Beyond that, he’s also known for directing the 2017 movie “The Death of Stalin” and co-creating the superhero satire series “The Franchise,” a joint production with Sam Mendes for HBO.
