As a dedicated Viktor main with over 10 years of playing League of Legends under my belt, I must confess, I’m not exactly thrilled with the recent rework. It feels like they took my beloved mechanical engineer and transformed him into a wizard, complete with a wand instead of his signature robotic arm.

Viktor’s players are expressing dissatisfaction towards the visual changes in his rework, stating that they altered his visual persona excessively while not significantly modifying his fundamental gameplay mechanics.

In a nutshell, the portrayal of Arcane in this new version deviates significantly from his previous characterization in League of Legends. To put it frankly, his backstory in LoL was quite inconsistent, veering between him being an altruistic engineer and a ruthless torturer with disregard for human life, making it difficult to follow or understand his motivations.

It’s challenging to dispute the objective of clarifying his backstory, but the method Riot employed by replacing the original Viktor with the Arcane version has certainly stirred controversy. Even with his previously confusing lore, fans found aspects they admired and grew fond of.

Players have expressed dissatisfaction over the significant changes made to Viktor’s appearance and persona in the rework, as they feel it strays too far from his original character and archetype, causing disappointment among fans of the character.

Viktor mains revolt against his rework

In the PBE subreddit, a post requesting feedback on Viktor’s redesign has received no upvotes yet garnered over 2000 comments. Evidently, the community isn’t satisfied with the current direction of changes.

A user on Reddit made an honest critique, stating that not updating any part of the character’s gear was a regrettable choice. They believe his E and Q have some merit, but particularly his W is woefully outdated and among the worst abilities in the game, in their opinion. At the very least, they suggested a significant overhaul of the W ability.

Another user expressed their dissatisfaction by saying, “The revamped costumes seem unappealing to me. They lack visual effects and some of the redesigns feel strange, especially the Deathsworn hood and mask, which I don’t find appealing at all. The High Noon outfit appears incomplete.

Essentially, folks find that the changes made to his appearance have been so extensive that he no longer feels like Viktor, yet the alterations to his equipment or “kit” are not significant enough for them to perceive it as a genuine overhaul.

In your attempt to satisfy two contrasting fanbases (Viktor Mains and Arcane Fans), you ended up dissatisfying both. It would have been more effective to prioritize either the Viktor mains or the Arcane fans, as we now have a product that neither group finds appealing. The gameplay doesn’t reflect Viktor’s powers from Arcane, and his visual design is met with disapproval by Viktor’s mains who were already unhappy with his W, Q, and R abilities.

“You guys managed to improve nothing and enrage old and new Viktor fans, congratulations.”

According to the official Arcane art book, it appears that Viktor’s design in League of Legends was heavily influenced by Fortiche’s concept rather than Riot’s own vision. The aim was to maintain the unique style of the animation studio when translating the character into the game.

So, basically they did not care to check if the source material was being respected or make a balance between the two concepts. :l They gave total freedom and just copy-paste.

As a dedicated gamer, I find myself grappling with a tough call regarding my beloved champion, Viktor. His departure from League of Legends leaves me with a sense of emptiness, like a crucial piece of the game is missing. The fresh take on his character just doesn’t seem to fill the void he left behind.

TBSkyen, the keeper of lore for League of Legends, found common ground with many Viktor players who aren’t fond of his rework. “There’s no sense of an engineer here, there’s no ‘I’m a mechanical scientist firing laser blasts with my robotic arm using scientific beams!’ or anything like that. Instead, it feels more like a wizard performing typical magical feats.

In many gaming communities, players who are particularly fond of Viktor, similar to Hancock, have expressed their concern that they’re losing the essence of their favorite character due to this rework. They believe that the rework doesn’t accurately reflect his original story or adaptation in Arcane, as he retains most of his old abilities while being attached to a new persona.

He and many other Viktor mains are calling for a revert-lution.
