Elon Musk hints at buying Hasbro for D&D after announcing AI game studio

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and skepticism about Elon Musk’s latest move. On one hand, his passion for gaming is evident, having set a world record in Diablo 4, no less! His desire to revolutionize the industry and make games great again is something many gamers have been yearning for.

On the very same day that Elon Musk declared he was launching an AI-focused video game studio with the aim of revitalizing gaming, he playfully hinted at possibly acquiring Hasbro in order to claim the rights to Dungeons & Dragons.

Even though Elon Musk is reportedly the richest person globally, he’s not just a business magnate; he’s also an exceptionally skilled gamer who managed to secure the title of Diablo 4’s top player by setting a world record in its most challenging mode.

On the 27th of November, following a disgruntled fan’s criticism of questionable practices in game development, Musk revealed his intentions for making changes.

Many game studios, which are often under the control of large corporations, are dominating the scene. However, @xAI plans to establish a new AI-focused game studio with the goal of revitalizing the gaming industry!

He declared, “There are too many game studios controlled by big corporations.” However, xAI intends to launch an AI-focused game studio, aiming to revive the joy of gaming once more!

Currently, it appears that Musk is aiming to acquire a new property and intends to manage it differently.

Elon Musk toys with buying Hasbro for D&D

On November 22nd, I found myself at odds with Jason Tondro, the Product Lead for Dungeons & Dragons, over his remarks in the 40th Anniversary ‘Making of D&D’ book. In the book’s introduction, he seemed to distance himself from the game’s original creators, which felt a bit off to me as someone who’s always cherished the rich history and creativity that went into shaping this iconic tabletop fantasy game.

“Nobody, and I mean nobody, gets to trash E. Gary Gygax and the geniuses who created Dungeons & Dragons,” Musk blasted. “What the f**k is wrong with Hasbro and WoTC?? May they burn in hell.”

It’s entirely unacceptable for anyone to speak ill of E. Gary Gygax or the brilliant minds behind the creation of Dungeons & Dragons.

What on earth is going on at Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast? May they find themselves in troubled waters.

A week down the line, on November 27, I shared a screenshot that showcased Tondro’s reaction to Elon Musk’s earlier worries. (Or) Last week, on November 27, I posted a snapshot displaying Tondro’s feedback regarding Musk’s previous apprehensions.

As a gamer, I’d say when facing Musk’s criticism about the book, Tondro clarified that my team and I understood that pushback would be expected from progressives and individuals from underrepresented communities. This was because they rightfully found some of the language in Original Dungeons & Dragons offensive.

Nevertheless, although he wasn’t anticipating the critique to stem from traditional players such as Musk, he chose to disregard their remarks.

He dismissed those criticisms as unimportant, regarding the critics as insignificant voices, which is why he wasn’t surprised by their supposed anger.

How much is Hasbro?

“How much is Hasbro?” Musk asked.

If Musk were to acquire Hasbro, it would give him control over intellectual properties like Transformers, Axis & Allies, Monopoly, Magic The Gathering, and My Little Pony, assuming that the current owner did not provide further details about a possible purchase.

Let’s be patient and observe as things develop, to determine if Elon Musk is genuinely considering purchasing the massive media company.
