Assassin's Creed: Shadows is Their First Game Ever. Half The Team Working on Yasuke and Naoe Adventures are „Juniors”

As a seasoned gamer with two decades under my belt, I must admit that the news of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows being handled by mostly new developers has me both intrigued and cautious. On one hand, it’s exciting to see fresh talent breathing life into such an iconic franchise. On the other, it’s a bit like handing a Ferrari’s keys to a learner driver – there’s potential for greatness, but also the risk of a few fender benders along the way.

One crucial game in Ubisoft’s long-standing catalog could be Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. Prior to its release, several of Ubisoft’s earlier games didn’t perform financially as expected, which resulted in challenges like a significant drop in stock value, staff strikes, and official investigations. The person in charge of the Assassin’s Creed brand acknowledges that the developers are under immense pressure, as they believe this is their sole opportunity to shine.

AC: Shadows in the hands of new employees

Toward the end of October, the External Developer Summit event was held, where Marc-Alexis Coté, the executive producer of the Assassin’s Creed series, was present. During this discussion, an intriguing detail emerged. It appears that a significant number of new hires are anticipated to contribute to the development of Shadows, the upcoming project in the Assassin’s Creed series.

It appears that due to the pandemic, more than half of the team working on our project, including the development of Assassin’s Creed, are doing so for the first time.

It might come as a shock to many that this significant brand is being entrusted to team members without prior game development experience. While team adjustments and bringing in fresh faces are common in the process, assigning half of it to novices could be quite daring. After all, half makes up a substantial portion of the whole.

As a gamer, I’ve got some insights that might spark curiosity regarding the quality of Shadows. Interestingly, it seems that the newcomers on the development team are handling their responsibilities more effectively compared to the veterans. Moreover, they’re bringing some innovative ideas to the table, which could potentially breathe fresh life into the game.

On February 14th, we’ll discover if that turns out to be true when “Assassin’s Creed: Shadows” drops for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
