As a devoted fan of the golden era of television, I find myself enchanted by Marc Cherry’s potential return to Wisteria Lane. His ability to breathe life into the seemingly mundane suburban existence and uncover the dark secrets hidden beneath the white picket fences is nothing short of remarkable.
Marc Cherry, the brain behind ‘Desperate Housewives,’ expresses interest in delving into a different time period on Wisteria Lane.
Recently, Cherry shared his concept for a precursor tale to the popular ABC show featuring Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Eva Longoria, in an interview with People magazine.
Cherry mentioned that she might have preferred to explore the concept earlier, perhaps in a different decade. She misses writing about Wisteria Lane the most because it was such an enjoyable playground for writers, as they had control over the entire street. Cherry is very familiar with this street, knowing it like the back of her hand. Whenever a commercial is filmed on that street, she instantly recognizes it due to her knowledge of all the houses and the geography. Writing for Wisteria Lane was a delightful experience. At times, she wonders if she could write about Wisteria Lane in 1966.
As a devoted cinephile, I’ve often found myself pondering over this: Marc Cherry, the genius behind “Devious Maids” and “Why Women Kill,” has been inundated with around 70,000 queries regarding a revival of “Desperate Housewives.” And guess what? He’s got a few intriguing concepts up his sleeve for such a comeback!
As a fan, I’d be open to a revival of “Desperate Housewives” if there are more stories left untold. For a reboot to happen, it needs a strong artistic motivation. At some point, the creator might sit down with someone and discuss whether there’s a compelling enough reason to bring it back to life again.
Desperate Housewives” centers around four women – Susan Mayer (Hatcher), Lynette Scavo (Huffman), Bree Van de Kamp (Cross) and Gabrielle Solis (Longoria) – who reside in a seemingly perfect suburban community. However, after their friend and neighbor, Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong), tragically takes her own life, they begin to unravel the hidden mysteries and scandals within their neighborhood. This drama-comedy series, airing on ABC from 2004 to 2012, garnered seven Primetime Emmys and three Golden Globes.
