As a seasoned cinephile with decades of immersion in the world of entertainment, I can hardly contain my excitement for this latest development in the ever-evolving landscape of streaming services. Karl Holmes, a stalwart of the industry and a man who’s spent an impressive ten years at Sky, is set to take the reins at Disney+ EMEA.
Sky exec Karl Holmes has been tapped to lead Disney+ EMEA.
Starting from January, I’ll be stationed in London, having come from my previous role as the Chief Operating Officer for Europe at Sky, also serving as the U.K.’s Chief Consumer Revenue Officer, Chief Financial Officer for the U.K. and Ireland, and Group Chief Data Officer.
In Disney+, he has been appointed as Senior Vice President for Direct-to-Consumer and General Manager for Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). Previously held by Luke Bradley-Jones, another former Sky executive, this position was filled between 2020 and 2024. This year, Bradley-Jones left to assume the role of President at The Economist publishing group.
At Disney+ Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), Holmes has been appointed as the head, overseeing the local teams. He will be accountable to both Jan Koeppen, President of Disney+ EMEA, and Joe Earley, President of Direct-to-Consumer at Disney Entertainment.
Karl Holmes is set to join Disney+’s EMEA division at a time when our direct-to-consumer business is thriving across this region, according to Koeppen. With its acclaimed series and films, Disney+ offers content for all tastes. Given Karl’s history of fostering long-term success in consumer-oriented businesses, I am confident that under his guidance, the team will prosper.
Holmes stated: “For quite some time, I’ve held Disney in high regard due to its exceptional status as a business. Being a devoted admirer of the brand for many years, I am thrilled about my upcoming role within the company, where I will oversee direct-to-consumer operations in EMEA. This follows an impressive decade at Sky. I’m eager to collaborate with Jan, Joe, and their talented teams as we embark on Disney+’s fifth year, aiming to share Disney’s captivating storytelling with an even wider audience.
