“I Was Mad at Tim.” Home Improvement Star Has Revealed Why She Left the TV Series. To Tim Allen's Displeasure, Her Decision Led to the End of the Sitcom

As a seasoned gamer and avid viewer of Home Improvement, I must say that the behind-the-scenes drama surrounding the show’s finale was as intriguing as any plotline from the series itself. It’s fascinating to learn about the pay gaps between Tim Allen and Patricia Richardson, and the role they played in determining the end of the beloved sitcom.

After eight exciting seasons, Tim Allen’s popular sitcom “Home Improvement” came to an end against his wishes for more episodes. Regrettably, the desire of Patricia Richardson, who portrayed Allen’s TV wife, was instrumental in halting further production.

Later on, Richardson shared the motivations for her exit from Home Improvement during an interview with the Los Angeles Times, even though she was presented with a $1 million offer per episode for the entire 25-episode season. At the same time, Tim Allen received a reported $2 million per episode. The actress mentioned that long-term salary discrepancies between her and Allen played a significant role in her decision to leave the show.

Apart from that, she believed they had shared all they intended to share, and carrying on seemed less relevant. This was particularly so because they were about to collaborate with individuals who, according to the LA Times, weren’t very familiar with “Home Improvement,” necessitating the actors to argue with them to maintain their character integrity.

Despite her intention to depart, Richardson negotiated with Disney. She stated that she would remain if they matched the deal given to Allen, which included a $2 million pay-per-episode and the position of executive producer.

It was clear to me that Disney wouldn’t offer such a high salary. This was essentially my polite decline, with a touch of disrespect towards Disney. After all, I had been with them for quite some time, yet I was only getting a third of what Tim earned, and I was putting in a lot of effort. I played a significant role in attracting female viewers.

Just as Richardson had foreseen, no invite came my way for season 9, and that was it for the show. On the contrary, Allen didn’t decline the producers’ offer for next season; he took their cash instead. This move left me standing solo in the gaming arena.

I felt angry toward Tim since he was the only one refusing, leaving me isolated, which made me feel awful and as if I were the wrongdoer. Moreover, it seemed that he was displeased with me for departing too.

The show “Home Improvement” concluded in a manner that left many viewers feeling its essence was lost without Tim Allen’s character. Reportedly, Allen himself, as stated by the actress, wasn’t content with this resolution and is said to have never fully pardoned her.
