Laura Gordon and Tim Griffin are now part of the “Voltron” cast for Amazon MGM Studios, joining an already impressive lineup that includes Sterling K. Brown, Daniel Quinn-Toye, Henry Cavill, Rita Ora, John Kim, Alba Baptista, Samson Kayo, and Tharanya Tharan.
Rawson Marshall Thurber is directing the film from a script he wrote with Ellen Shanman.
Although the specifics about the movie are still confidential, director Rawson Marshall Thurber reassured Voltron enthusiasts during VoltCon by stating, “It’s crucial for us to preserve the essence and soul of Voltron in this film. We will be presenting a fresh crew of pilots for a new era. We’ve adapted Voltron for live-action, but we promise to maintain the cherished aspects that resonate with you and me. I can hardly wait to unveil it to you.
The individuals responsible for production are Todd Lieberman through Hidden Pictures, Bob Koplar, as well as David Hoberman from Thurber and Hobie Films.
The “Voltron” TV series focuses on a group of space travelers who control a massive super robot. Originating from multiple Japanese animated television shows produced by Toei Animation, it has given birth to numerous American spin-offs, including the eight-season Netflix hit, “Voltron: Legendary Defender.
Griffin has made a name for himself with appearances on shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Prime Suspect,” “Covert Affairs,” and “Wayward Pines.
In 2023, Gordon shared the screen with David Dastmalchian in the movie “Late Night with the Devil.” This film received excellent reviews and set a new record for the largest opening weekend ever for an IFC production. Gordon also appeared in the series “Hotel Cocaine,” produced by Chris Brancato, and the Netflix political thriller “Secret City” alongside Jackie Weaver and Anna Torv. Her role in the feature film “Undertow” earned her a nomination for best lead actress at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA). Among her other notable works are “Saw V,” “The Claremont Murders,” “Reckoning,” and “Hunters.
