As a cinephile with a penchant for darker narratives and a soft spot for antiheroes, I must admit that the trailer for “Dexter: Original Sin” piqued my interest. Having followed the original Showtime series from its inception, I’m intrigued to see how Patrick Gibson will embody the younger version of Dexter Morgan. The setting in 1991 Miami and the promise of a new forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department add an enticing layer of complexity to Dexter’s journey.
In the teaser for “Dexter: Original Sin,” one of TV’s most notorious serial killer characters makes his return, with Patrick Gibson portraying the younger version of this character in the upcoming prequel series.
Beginning December 13, the 10-episode dramatic series is available for streaming and on-demand viewing on Paramount+ for Showtime subscribers. In the United States, it will first air on television on December 15 at 10:00 PM.
1991 Miami serves as the backdrop for “Original Sin,” where we follow Dexter’s transformation from student to an avenging serial killer. The story revolves around Dexter, who can no longer suppress his bloodlust. To cope with this inner darkness, he seeks guidance from his father, Harry (played by Christian Slater). Adopting a unique Code, he learns to identify and eliminate individuals who warrant elimination from society, all while avoiding suspicion from law enforcement. To complicate matters, Dexter juggles his unorthodox activities with a new internship in forensics at the Miami Metro Police Department.
Michael C. Hall, who was known for his role as Dexter in the original Showtime series that aired from 2006 to 2013, reprises his character by providing Dexter’s inner voice. The ensemble also features Molly Brown, Christina Milian, James Martinez, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson, with Sarah Michelle Gellar appearing as a special guest star, and Patrick Dempsey is part of the cast too.
The executive producers of this show are Clyde Phillips, Scott Reynolds, Hall, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, and Robert Lloyd Lewis acts as the producer. Both Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios contribute to its production. Michael Lehmann is the chief director for the series, and Gary Levine and Urooj Sharif are in charge of its creative direction for Showtime Studios, with Tara Power managing its production.
