Former Little Nightmare Devs Tease Their Creepy New Sci-Fi Game

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation when it comes to Section 9 Interactive’s upcoming game. Having been captivated by the eerie and intriguing world of Little Nightmares, I find myself drawn to this new project that carries a hint of its aesthetic charm. The fact that it’s being developed by former Tarsier Studios devs only adds to my excitement.

Today, Section 9 Studios, made up of ex-developers from Tarsier Studios known for creating the initial two Little Nightmares games, revealed they’ve secured a contract with Epic Games Publishing. This partnership will ensure their upcoming game will be available on PC and consoles. As of now, the game doesn’t have a title, but it seems that some elements from the Little Nightmares series might influence this studio’s inaugural production.

Although the game features eerie adversaries and an ominous ambiance, it’s not categorized as a horror title by the studio. Instead, they label it as a “science fiction action-adventure” game that utilizes Unreal Engine 5. However, certain enemies depicted in the game’s development materials evoke a sense of “In space, no one can hear you scream,” adding to the suspense. As of now, there’s no confirmed release date for this intriguing project.

For Epic, this signing signifies a continuation of their notable collaboration on Alan Wake 2, their latest major project that debuted last year across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, receiving widespread praise. Initially, the game was exclusively digital, but recently, it has become available in physical format for consoles as well, thanks to Epic Publishing. In line with Remedy’s sentiments about their partner, Section 9 expressed that Epic Publishing has provided them with exceptional support and the opportunity to fully actualize their creative vision – precisely what a publisher should offer.

Among the current deals at Epic Publishing are several noteworthy ones: one being the long-awaited next game from Playdead, creators of critically acclaimed titles like Limbo and Inside. Additionally, there’s the studio of Fumito Ueda, GenDesign, known for their work on Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian.

For Section 9, it’s worth noting that Tarsier Studios, the original developers behind Little Nightmares, aren’t the only ones crafting an experience similar to its eerie ambiance. They’re currently working on a game called Reanimal, while Supermassive Games has been tasked with creating the next installment in the series – Little Nightmares 3.
