As a seasoned cinephile with a penchant for quirky comedies and heartfelt female friendships, I am utterly thrilled about Mary Elizabeth Ellis joining the cast of “Ditched.” With her exceptional acting chops and knack for portraying complex characters, she is an ideal fit for Lauren, a commitment-phobic sports journalist. The film’s premise, based on the bestselling novel “Bride Squad Runaway,” promises a road trip through Ireland that I can only imagine will be as enchanting as the Emerald Isle itself.
“Red One” star Mary Elizabeth Ellis has joined the cast of Irish wedding comedy “Ditched.”
The movie “Bride Squad Runaway,” inspired by Caroline Grace-Cassidy and Lisa C. Carey’s popular novel, follows the story of Lauren, a spirited and commitment-shy sports journalist, played by Ellis. After one of her best friends is left at the altar, they embark on an adventurous road trip across Ireland together.
In “The Virtues”, Jade Jordan portrays Lauren’s friend Ava, who is mourning the passing of her mother. Meanwhile, Amy de Bhrún takes on the role of Kate, a prominent lawyer juggling her profession with family responsibilities, including two young children. As life complicates their connections, they gradually drift apart, but a tragic incident brings them back together in an even stronger bond.
“When Ava’s wannabe-rock star fiancé Simon is a no-show on the big day, the trio embark on a fury-fuelled, mayhem-filled road trip to the West of Ireland to find (and possibly murder) the runaway groom who’s ditched the wedding for his big break at a music festival,” reads the logline.
Grace-Cassidy and Carey are modifying a book for an upcoming film production, with Pollyanna McIntosh (“The Walking Dead”) set to direct. The production companies involved are Vico Films, led by Cormac Fox and Colmán Mac Cionnaith, who have previously worked on “The Young Offenders”.
“Ditched” is set to start shooting on location in Dublin and Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way in May.
Grace-Cassidy expressed great excitement when announcing that Mary Elizabeth Ellis will be joining the cast as Lauren. ‘Ditched’ is a film focusing on longstanding friendships, particularly exploring the bonds between women in their 40s.
