As a long-time film enthusiast and connoisseur of all things cinematic, I must say this week’s U.K. box office is a veritable smorgasbord of delights! The screen adaptation of “Wicked” has truly cast a spell on me, and its staggering debut has left me bewitched and beguiled.
In the United Kingdom and Ireland, Universal’s film version of “Wicked” made an impressive debut at the box office, earning a substantial £13.7 million ($17.2 million), as reported by Comscore’s figures.
In its second week, the musical fantasy film kept up a powerful pace, earning an additional £4.7 million, bringing its overall earnings to £18.4 million, following “Gladiator II” at Paramount.
In its third week, “Paddington in Peru” from Studiocanal is still performing strongly at the box office, earning an additional £4.2 million, making its current total £24.5 million. Meanwhile, “Red One,” distributed by Warner Bros., claimed the fourth spot with a weekend take of £866,764, pushing its three-week cumulative to £5.9 million.
In the box office rankings, “Heretic” distributed by Entertainment Film Distributors earned £205,457 in its fourth week, bringing its four-week total to £5.4 million and securing a spot among the top five films.
Trafalgar Releasing’s Metropolitan Opera performance of “Tosca” started in 8th position, earning £129,206 on its opening day, while Magnetes Pictures’ Polish film “Letters to M. 6” came next with a debut of £123,448. Sony Pictures’ “Venom: The Last Dance” rounded off the top 10 with £122,165, adding its total earnings over five weeks to an impressive £12.2 million.
As a film enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement for the upcoming holiday movie lineup! On November 29th, Disney’s highly-anticipated sequel, “Moana 2,” will be gracing our screens and setting the stage for a fantastic season. Moreover, Edward Berger’s critically acclaimed film, “Conclave,” featuring an extraordinary ensemble cast including Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Isabella Rossellini, is set to open in over 300 locations through Vue Entertainment. I can hardly wait!
The movie “Your Monster” by Caroline Lindy, featuring Melissa Barrera and Tommy Dewey, is scheduled for a limited release in approximately 25 cinemas. BFI Distribution will present “All We Imagine as Light,” the Cannes Grand Prix winner directed by Payal Kapadia, which stars Kani Kusruti and Divya Prabha.
4K-restored versions of Robert Zemeckis’ “The Polar Express,” starring Tom Hanks, celebrates its 20th anniversary and will be screened in more than 100 locations. In contrast, smaller releases like Chloe Abrahams’ documentary “The Taste of Mango” from Conic and Clair Titley’s “The Contestant,” from MetFilm, are planned for limited venue showings.
On November 28th, you can catch “Welcome to Shepherd’s Bush,” the Rolling Stones concert film, through Vue Entertainment.
