After only two years since its opening, Tom Schwartz and Tom Sandoval‘s Hollywood bar, Schwartz & Sandy’s, is set to close its doors by the end of December.
Both Sandoval and Schwartz shared the news of their business closing on Instagram. Sandoval penned down, “It is with great sadness that we’ve taken a tough call to shut down Schwartz & Sandy’s by the end of December.
Making this decision wasn’t simple for my associates and myself, as we’ve found ourselves tied up with other important matters. This business journey, however, has been an invaluable experience that I will forever appreciate. Now, I eagerly anticipate embarking on fresh, exhilarating adventures.
In March of 2023, only a few months after its grand opening in late fall the preceding year, fans of “Vanderpump Rules” flocked to the bar and eatery following news that Tom Sandoval had been unfaithful to his long-term partner Ariana Madix with their fellow cast member Raquel Leviss. The scandal, dubbed #Scandoval, generated buzz for the establishment, but not all of it was favorable.
The Franklin Village lounge presented a diverse selection of dishes, such as cacio e pepe pasta, steak frites, and lobster corndogs, in a stylish atmosphere featuring palm trees, quirky artwork, and vibrant wallpaper patterns.
The restaurant team expressed frustration that some viewers who create drama aren’t providing tips or leaving positive feedback, and instead post negative comments. In a since-removed Instagram post from 2023, the restaurant explained that their staff – including waitstaff, bartenders, cooks, and dishwashers – are not responsible for this unfortunate circumstance. They asked customers to keep in mind that posting critical remarks impacts not only the person being criticized, but also others who might be affected.
On Mondays, Sandoval shared a post about our closing, saying, “The appeal of being part of reality TV has concealed the fact that this is an exceptional location in LA for locals to enjoy. I strongly urge you to visit us, especially if you haven’t already done so. Let’s meet up one more time before we close.
Similar to numerous other restaurants in the post-pandemic era, Schwartz & Sandy’s faced significant financial troubles, as explained by Schwartz to People Magazine, who initially reported the closure. “Regrettably, the present business climate is quite challenging,” said Schwartz. “Overcoming the aftermath of the scandal wasn’t simple, and the reduced profits following COVID-19 made it particularly difficult to recover.
In the end, the attention brought about by the scandal turned out to be unwanted negative exposure for the business, as Schwartz explained to People. “Tom and I realized the hard truth about having one’s name above the door. It brings great responsibility, and any personal issues you have can significantly impact your business and your partners.
