AMC Networks Celebrates Native American Heritage Month With Launch of ‘Indigenous Rising Stars’ Short Films Series

As a lifelong advocate for diversity and representation in media, I am absolutely thrilled to see AMC Networks stepping up their game during Native American Heritage Month. The Indigenous Stories collection and short films series is not just a celebration of native talent, but a powerful reminder that authentic stories from underrepresented voices are crucial in our shared cultural landscape.

AMC Networks honors Native American Heritage Month by debuting their Indigenous Stories compilation and a series of short films.

The collection highlights television and film content created by and starring Indigenous creatives and talent from AMC Networks, such as the Zahn McClarnon-produced thriller series “Dark Winds” and the Emmy-winning documentary “Lakota Nation vs. United States.”

Additional titles under the theme “Celebrating Indigenous Stories” are “Black Snow,” “Good Mourning,” “Extreme Cold,” “Absolute Power,” “Sacred Pathway,” and “Wise Man.

AMC Networks has introduced a collection of short movies called “Indigenous Rising Stars,” which is part of the “Celebrating Indigenous Stories” archive. This collection is showcased within AMC’s “Future of Film” project. These shorts are sourced from the Indigenous Program of The Santa Fe International Film Festival and have been carefully selected by Gary Farmer, known for his work on “Reservation Dogs.” You can stream these movies from November 25 to December 24.

The following short films have been chosen for “Indigenous Rising Stars”: “Far Out There” by Lily Gladstone, “Long Line of Ladies”, “I Am Home”, “Pî-kiwîk”, and “The Original Shareholder Experience”. These are the selected titles.

Courtney Thomasma, EVP of Linear and Streaming Products at AMC Networks, expressed pride about collaborating with The Santa Fe International Film Festival. They aim to promote genuine narratives from underrepresented groups. They’re thrilled for viewers to explore these captivating tales from a mix of established and up-and-coming Indigenous creators during Native American Heritage Month on AMC+. As they anticipate the upcoming season of Dark Winds premiering in March 2025, they look forward to sharing more engaging stories.

Starting March 9, you’ll be able to watch the latest episodes of “Dark Winds” only on AMC and AMC+.
