Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort, ‘Free Guy’ Writer Matt Lieberman Team With Paramount Animation for ‘Mighty Mouse’ Movie (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned movie critic with a keen eye for spotting potential blockbusters and a heart full of nostalgia, I must say that the collaboration between Paramount Animation, Maximum Effort Productions, and Matt Lieberman on the “Mighty Mouse” project has me buzzing like an overcaffeinated bee.

Paramount Animation is recruiting top-tier stars as they continue their extensive work, aiming to eventually launch “Mighty Mouse” on the silver screen for the first time.

The studio has chosen Maximum Effort Productions, Ryan Reynold’s production company, to create a live-action version of the famous cartoon as part of their initial collaboration agreement with the studio. Moreover, Paramount Animation has engaged Matt Lieberman, who collaborated with Reynolds on the 2021 film “Free Guy,” to write the screenplay.

Since 1942, Mighty Mouse has been a popular character, first appearing in a short film titled “The Mouse of Tomorrow.” Over the years, he starred in numerous other shorts and even had his own Saturday morning cartoon, which introduced the catchy theme song, “Mighty Mouse Theme (Here I Come to Save the Day)”. Despite being reimagined and rebooted multiple times, more recent attempts to bring Mighty Mouse back to screens, such as those involving the team behind “Red” and “The Meg,” have not been successful. Currently, Brad Butler, Vice President of Animated Features at Paramount Animation, is overseeing the development of a new Mighty Mouse project.

Beyond “Free Guy,” Lieberman has contributed to scripts like “The Christmas Chronicles” and its follow-up, “Rumble,” as well as “Scoob!” and “The Addams Family.” Reynolds achieved great success with the summer blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine” and also starred in Paramount’s “If” last summer. Maximum Effort currently has multiple projects in development with Paramount, such as “Boy Band,” a comedy centered around a music group’s reunion; “Starter Villain,” an adaptation of the popular science-fiction novel by John Scalzi; and “Eloise,” a film adaptation of the cherished family book series. In February, Maximum Effort confirmed that they had extended their contract with Paramount until 2026.

Lieberman is associated with the firms CAA, Lit Entertainment Group, Mortimer PR, Lichter Grossman, Nichols, Feldman, Rogal, Shikora & Clark. (or)
