Marvel Rivals Dev Vision Vol. 2 Addressed "Anti-Cheat Measures," New Maps & More

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the latest updates for Marvel Rivals have got me pretty excited! The new maps, UI tweaks, and anti-cheat systems are all features that I appreciate, especially after dealing with my fair share of cheaters in my gaming days.

In the flurry of daily updates from Marvel Rivals’ creator NetEase Games, they unveiled their second Developer Insight video on November 24th, 2024. This video, shared on the official Marvel Rivals YouTube channel, was hosted by Zhiyong, the Lead Combat Designer of Marvel Rivals. In this discussion, he covered a wide range of gameplay aspects and support, both from the initial release and ongoing updates.

Besides the Developer Vision update unveiling fresh announcements, it’s worth noting that these were detailed in this latest Dev Vision update. These new details are sure to excite players when the game is finally released. While Volume 1 of Dev Vision centered on Season 0’s primary narrative and confirmed the inclusion of a Season Pass, monetization strategies, and localization assistance, Volume 2 zeroed in on their strategies for “enhancing the gameplay experience,” Anti-Cheat measures, and core gameplay elements and updates.

First off, I’m thrilled about the balance updates that are being made to numerous heroes! These tweaks, derived from data gathered during the Closed Beta Test (CBT) and player feedback, aim to tame the formidable power of characters like Magneto. At the same time, they’re beefing up the combat kits for Jeff the Baby Land Shark and Loki. This overhaul also extends to new playable characters, though the specific ones haven’t been revealed yet. The goal is to create a “level playing field” so that when players dive into the game at launch and beyond, they’ll have a “fair and balanced” experience.

On the official Marvel Rivals site, the developer plans to include a comprehensive guide, covering details about each hero’s skills and crucial battle data such as win rates and selection frequencies. Although there isn’t a specific release date for this character data pack on Marvel Rivals, since they will be gathering combat stats and information for all heroes post-launch, they’ll notify players about the availability of this “compendium” or “dossier” in due time.

Discussing the planned improvements for Marvel Rivals at both launch and afterwards, aimed at providing players with a seamless and equitable gaming experience. These enhancements cover various fundamental gameplay elements including combat efficiency, data transmission, and essential game mechanics. As stated by the Lead Combat Designer, these improvements encompass everything from their initial characters to the most recent ones added to the game.

The developers have optimized the transitions between characters’ actions, particularly enhancing the grandiose movements of iconic heroes such as Hulk and Magik. Specifically, hit effects and elemental markings have been fine-tuned to make them more noticeable at a distance, amplifying the impact of attacks. Additionally, the developers have restructured what they call the “visual effects hierarchy,” possibly for improved chaos during battles, and players should keep an ear out for adjustments in the soundscapes.

The game’s user interface has received updates, such as a dedicated hero UI and clear reload indicators that signal teammates before a character launches their powerful attacks. Additionally, the developer has outlined improvements to the map system, featuring refinements and improved performance optimizations, which will be included at launch.

Moreover, during Season 0, we’re planning to introduce additional maps across Quick Match, Competitive games, Conquest, and Practice Range. The Birnin T’Challa map and the Hall of Djalia within the Wakandan Intergalactic Empire have already been confirmed. These maps will be used for Domination and Convergence game modes.

In the initial showcase of Hawkeye’s character, we were introduced to Hell’s Heaven, a new map for the Domination mode, nestled within the fiery core of Antarctica’s volcanoes. This map comes with some unexpected terrain shifts. For those who favor Venom in the Marvel Rivals community, get ready for Klyntar, the symbiote planet, joining the fray. This new Convergence map, Klyntar: Symbiotic Surface, allows players to manipulate the map by interacting with the symbiotes, altering the landscape in distinctive ways.

In the year 2099, Tokyo will welcome another Conquest map called Warped Ninomaru. This map features an innovative concept where destroyed environments and debris from battles are sucked into a floating portal above Tokyo 2099. Meanwhile, regarding the Practice Range map, the developers have kept quiet about its design and layout for now, offering players a chance to familiarize themselves with their chosen hero’s combat arsenal.

To ensure a secure and fair gaming environment for all players at the game’s launch, the developer incorporated advanced anti-cheat measures in the recent Closed Beta Test. This system was designed to discourage players from employing unfair advantages or engaging in deceitful behavior by prohibiting them from utilizing exploits. Consequences for such actions included temporary bans, with an average of seven games being affected during the testing phase. The developer has managed to keep instances of this kind of misconduct below 1%, a standard that was also applied to console versions.

Right now, they are focusing on creating ways to identify dishonest actions within the game, and they’ve shared that they’ve made substantial progress in this area. They assure players that they will remain committed to maintaining honesty and providing a level playing field for all users during gameplay.
