Nikhil Mahajan’s ‘Taxi Driver’ to Launch Prasanna Ajarekar’s Anashwar Media at Film Bazaar (EXCLUSIVE)

As a cinephile who’s traversed the cinematic landscapes of Bollywood and beyond, I must say that the collaboration between Prasanna Ajarekar, Nikhil Mahajan, and Suhrud Godbole promises an exciting chapter in Indian cinema. With their collective experience and shared vision, they are poised to create modern, cutting-edge Indian films that push boundaries and resonate deeply with audiences.

Indian businessman Prasanna Ajarekar has recently established Anashwar Media and Entertainment, making its initial appearance in the film industry through Nikhil Mahajan’s “Taxi Driver” at the current Film Bazaar project market.

This movie tells the story of a cabbie and a burglar whose paths cross on a dramatic evening, uncovering an unforeseen bond from their past history. Filming will begin in January 2025, aiming for a premiere in early 2026.

Ajarekar expresses his lifelong fascination with the world of filmmaking. When he met Nikhil and Suhrud through Shrirang Godbole, he sensed a perfect partnership based on their impressive portfolio. He understands that this line of work requires sustained relationships and collaborations, and his ambition extends to the coming years where he aims to establish a platform for contemporary, innovative Indian cinema. ‘Taxi Driver’ is merely the beginning of this exciting journey.

For Mahajan, the creator behind the environmental thriller “Raavsaheb,” which is vying for recognition at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, “Taxi Driver” signifies a transition in genres after his family drama titled “Godavari.

Mahajan mentions that ‘Taxi Driver’ is a long-held aspiration for him. He expresses gratitude towards Prasanna for recognizing the tale’s promise and for backing it wholeheartedly.

The movie further solidifies Mahajan and producer Suhrud Godbole’s working relationship, which is now their fourth joint project including “Pune 52,” “Baji,” and “June.” Since 2009, Godbole has collaborated with Mahajan, expressing their dedication to pushing the limits of Marathi cinema. Godbole is pleased to have Prasanna on board as he shares their creative ideas. Notably, Ajarekar is also a financial backer for “Raavsaheb.

The project’s debut at Film Bazaar leverages our team’s past experiences with this platform, as it played a key role in our earlier projects within the Marathi film sector.

Film Bazaar (Nov. 20-24) is the project market component of IFFI (Nov. 20-28).
