Conan O'Brien's Clueless Gamer Returns To Take On A Game He's Already In

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Clueless Gamer‘s latest installment featuring Conan O’Brien and Death Stranding Director’s Cut was an absolute riot! It’s not every day you see a talk show host fumbling around in a game that requires more finesse than a late-night monologue.

During his tenure as the host on TBS, Conan O’Brien regularly included the segment called Clueless Gamer. Although O’Brien has produced fewer episodes since he left Conan, this week saw a fresh installment of Clueless Gamer, delving into the director’s cut version of Death Stranding – a game where Conan himself makes an appearance in a cameo role.

As a dedicated fan, I found myself rejoining Aaron Bleyaert in a riveting discussion with O’Brien. He delved deep into the enigmatic lore of Hideo Kojima’s game, painting a vivid picture that kept me captivated. In between his intense focus and what seemed like silent appeals for leniency towards the camera, O’Brien would feign sleep, adding a touch of humor to our shared experience.

In time, O’Brien took control and assumed the character of Sam Porter Bridges (played by Norman Reedus). Instead of following the intended seriousness of the scene where Sam aimed to get rid of his mother’s remains, O’Brien added a comedic twist by stumbling and clowning around, eventually passing the controller to Bleyaert. The game’s sequence was not designed for humor, but O’Brien managed to inject some lighthearted moments into it.

In the narrative, I (O’Brien) journeyed to Japan and submitted myself for scanning, playing a cameo role in the game. Kojima popped up momentarily in this video, guiding me on how to locate my character. Once found, my character offered players a Sea Otter Suit for swimming. However, upon discovering him, I (O’Brien) exclaimed, “Oh my God, I detest him, and he’s me.

Wrapping up the show, O’Brien playfully proposed that Kojima could give me a more heroic role in an upcoming game. Intriguingly, Kojima extended an invitation for me to visit Japan again, where I would be scanned by cutting-edge technology, surpassing my previous scans.

Previously exclusive to PS5 and PS4, Death Stranding Directors’ Cut launched on Xbox Series X|S earlier this month. A glimpse of the upcoming sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, was unveiled recently, offering a sneak peek at both new and familiar characters in the game. Among them is an interactive doll that speaks and sings. Death Stranding 2 is set to be released in the year 2025.
