As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that this Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launch has been quite the rollercoaster ride. I’ve seen games stumble at launch before, but this one seems to be taking it to a whole new level.
2024’s Microsoft Flight Simulator was one of the year’s most anticipated releases, but unfortunately not for the reasons developer Asobo Studio intended. The game, launched this week, has been hampered by a slew of bugs and performance problems that make it difficult to play for many users. This has led to negative reviews on Steam, a situation that Asobo Studio is now trying to rectify. They assure players that their team is tirelessly working to resolve the issues.
In a statement regarding Flight Simulator 2024, Asobo Studio acknowledged that while they’ve boosted the server capacity, persistent access issues persist. Many of these difficulties originate from an underestimation of the server requirements for maintaining seamless gameplay. The influx of players attempting to join the game has exceeded the servers’ capabilities, leading to overloads. The team also expressed their regrets and assured players that they are committed to resolving these problems further.
Despite expanding our server capacity and observing a rise in players entering the simulation, we’re unfortunately still encountering persistent access problems. This isn’t the seamless player experience we intended, and we’d like to extend our apologies to our community. Rest assured, we’ll keep working tirelessly…

In a YouTube video, Asobo CEO Sebastian Wloch explained that their servers malfunctioned even though they had tested them with up to 200,000 players simultaneously. Wloch mentioned that when they tried to resolve the problem by reducing the number of players, it seemed to work for about half an hour, but then the system’s memory overloaded again.
Wloch went on to say, ‘Let’s start over. We’re working diligently to explore, giving it our all, and moving swiftly to ensure everyone can proceed safely.’
Currently, we don’t have an estimated time for when the server problems with Flight Simulator 2024 will be fixed. So far, it’s been a bit of a rocky journey, but let’s hope the team at Asobo can successfully touch down and resolve these issues.
