As I peruse this illustrious array of celebrities gracing Elle’s 2024 Women in Hollywood celebration, I can’t help but be awestruck by the sheer magnitude of talent and achievement on display. Each woman here has carved out a unique path for herself in an industry notoriously difficult to navigate, and it’s a testament to their resilience, determination, and unyielding passion that they stand where they are today.
On a seldom-seen outing, Cameron Diaz attended an event in Los Angeles on Tuesday, where she joined forces to honor the esteemed actresses Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez, and Karla Sofía Gascón, at Elle magazine’s Women in Hollywood function.
Being in this room is truly amazing for me since it brings back memories of what I cherish about filmmaking – the closeness and the bond,” Diaz expressed. She commended “Emilia Pérez” as an intense examination of identity, resilience, and the bravery required to escape the shackles of societal and patriarchal expectations.
Diaz added, ‘This tale is not just human, it delves deep into love and the quest for personal identity.’ The achievement of these three actresses in this movie is simply astounding. They’ve crafted something so powerful, it will stay with you forever.
On the rug, Gomez confided in me that the attention both she and the movie have received “has been stunningly beautiful and overpowering, but in a positive sense.” She joked about her main struggle being ensuring she gets enough rest. “I can doze off anywhere,” Gomez admitted. “Even at a concert.
Mikey Madison, who plays in the “Anora” star, was also recognized. She shared with me her thoughts on the recognition and buzz surrounding her work in the Sean Baker drama: “I’m still working through a lot,” she said. “It takes me some time to fully absorb and process my emotions. Usually, when something incredible happens, someone will ask, ‘How do you feel about that?’ And I’d respond, ‘I don’t know yet. Let me think about it for a few days.’ But I feel fortunate. I’m thrilled.
Madison shared that the most thrilling experience during the promotion of “Anora” was having an opportunity to encounter Demi Moore’s pet dog, Pilaf.
On a nostalgic Tuesday, Moore found herself reminiscing as she accepted her award from her former co-stars Melanie Griffith, Rosie O’Donnell, and Rita Wilson, who starred alongside her in the 1995 movie “Now and Then.
Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton, who shared the screen in Pedro Almodóvar’s debut English-language film “The Room Next Door,” were also honored. When Moore first saw Almodóvar’s movie “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown”, she was astonished by his unique style and perspective, but never thought she’d collaborate with him. “I never in a million years imagined I’d be working with him,” Moore said. Almodóvar had often mentioned that he might one day make an English-language film, but then Moore received an unexpected email from the director. “Pedro emailed me out of the blue and said, ‘I’m making this movie with Tilda and I’d love for you to be in it.’ I was taken aback because I had no idea it was coming. I looked at my husband and asked, ‘Oh my god, what do I say?’ and he replied, ‘Just say yes.’
As a passionate cinephile, I found myself juggling two significant events yesterday. The exceptional Danielle Deadwyler graced not one, but two red carpets – first at the Elle event, and then swiftly dashing across town for the premiere of her captivating new film, “The Piano Lesson”. And to top it all off, she gracefully returned to the Four Seasons to receive her well-deserved award. What an exhilarating day it was!
Deadwyler shared with me that she’s currently working on a project involving romance. She also mentioned that there will be a horror element, and she finds the concept of body horror intriguing.
The dinner was graciously hosted by Nina García, editor-in-chief at Elle, with Ralph Lauren and Harry Winston serving as the main sponsors, while TikTok provided additional support.
