Daniel Craig Circling DC Comics Movie ‘Sgt. Rock’ With ‘Queer’ Director Luca Guadagnino

As an avid follower of the dynamic world of cinema, I am thrilled to see the collaboration between Luca Guadagnino and Daniel Craig on such a grand scale with “Sgt. Rock”. Guadagnino’s impressive resume, from the poignant beauty of “Call Me By Your Name” to the haunting reimagining of “Suspiria”, showcases his versatility as a filmmaker. His upcoming projects, including a remake of “American Psycho”, promise an exciting journey through various genres.

Luca Guadagnino and Daniel Craig, who recently teamed up on the independent film “Queer,” are planning to work together again, this time on a larger project. The two are considering “Sgt. Rock,” an adaptation of the well-known comic book, for DC Studios. As of now, there’s no information about the storyline, but it seems likely that their upcoming collaboration will feature significantly less explicit content than their previous project.

The project isn’t completely set yet, leaving it vulnerable to collapse, but the studio is optimistic about Justin Kuritzkes’ script, who’s known for “Challengers” and “Queer” under Guadagnino’s direction. This project was conceived during DC’s new management era led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, who are revitalizing the company. James Gunn’s future “Superman,” slated for 2025 release, aims to mark a new chapter for the comic book studio that has faced challenges in maintaining consistency (with every “Joker” there’s been a “Joker: Folie à Deux”) and often found itself playing second fiddle to Marvel Studios and their successful “Avengers” franchise.

Guadagnino is currently one of the most active and highly regarded directors in the film industry today. His portfolio encompasses films such as “Call Me By Your Name,” “Suspiria,” and “A Bigger Splash,” which primarily fall under the art-house category, rather than popular genres. Furthermore, he is anticipated to supervise a remake of “American Psycho” for Lionsgate.

Craig put away 007’s tuxedo and Walther PPK after completing “No Time to Die,” his fifth film as James Bond, which was released in 2021. Next year, he will be seen in “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” on Netflix.

In the comic books, Sergeant Rock is portrayed as a brave World War II soldier and an exceptional combatant. Over time, multiple efforts have been made to adapt him for film, featuring actors such as Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, but these projects ultimately failed to materialize.

Guadagnino is managed by Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Range Media Partners, and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher. On the other hand, Craig is represented by Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Independent Talent Group, and Glaser Weil Fink Jacobs Howard Avchen & Shapiro.

Deadline first reported Craig and Guadagnino’s involvement on “Sgt. Rock.”
