As a die-hard fan of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nostalgia at the news that cross-play is finally coming to this timeless gem. Nine years have passed since its release, yet here we are, still hooked on this tactical shooter masterpiece.
After a nine-year wait since its initial launch, multiplayer gaming across different platforms – PC and consoles – is now possible for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, enabling shared enjoyment among all players.
- The cross-play option will be added to Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege in an update that is set to launch on December 3rd. The update will be part of the 4th season in the 9th year of game development.
- Console players will be able to join the matchmaking pool of PC players. It won’t be possible the other way around. Thanks to this, console users who don’t want to compete with PC players won’t be forced to do so.
- To make all this work, Ubisoft is also preparing an update to the anti-cheat system. One of the introduced solutions will be to move console players who use a mouse and keyboard (which is prohibited) to the PC player pool for 90 days.
In the 4th season of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege, we can expect both the launch of Operation Collision Point and adjustments to gameplay balance.
Yesterday, I was part of an epic 44,264-player milestone on Steam, an achievement that’s quite remarkable for a game nine years old and also playable on Ubisoft. Yet, it’s clear that the game has been shedding some players in recent times. Just a short while ago, daily peaks were thousands higher. I can’t help but wonder how this game will fare in December, post the new season kickoff.
